Jim
MemberI used to get occasional freeze under xp sometimes but its been ok with ubuntu which i use most of the time, now i’ve used xp a bit recently and found it would freeze on flash video, like youtube, any ideas why it’s doing this, i believe there was a flash update recently that might be the cause but wouldn’t others be getting it too if that was the case?
Perhaps i need to update other drivers as well but im pretty sure they’re all mostly up to date, any ideas on things i can try to fix this?
thanks.

MemberJim, have you tried either of following:
Click on the battery icon in the task bar and make sure it’s set to “Max Performance”.Click the F8 function key to to enable more resources. You want to “enable” the running person icon.
They’re worth a try. Good luck. I’m sure someone more technically-oriented will come along shortly.

MemberThanks, is it possible to have everything set to max performance by default?
I wonder if perhaps xp isn’t setup to as good as it could be, i think the freeze is likely driver or software related and probably in part caused by flash, though like i mentioned i did get the occasional freeze in the past with xp while ubuntu has been fine.

MemberI believe the F8 option only works when you are watching a video. As far as the other settings go relative to battery power usage settings, once you choose a particular setting i.e. “max battery life” or “max performance” those settings hold until you change them.

MemberI tried changing it but it seems like it only works when a program is running and in focus, i don’t want the laptop to be anything but running at max performance and i can’t find where this hot key program is to set the option permanently.

ParticipantThe performance mode is only applied to the program you have selected, so you can’t run it all the time.

MemberJim, are you using I.Explorer on Windows? or Firefox? Is Shockwave Flash at 10.0.32.x? Also Java Plug-in 1.6.0? This would happen to Firefox on Windows a couple of years ago, sometimes the problem was Java, so check in the browser under Tools-Add-ons-Plug-ins.
