MemberHi Everyone,
Don’t know if anyone has experienced this and if so, is there a quick fix…?
I have a relatively new (under six months old) NC10, in the last fortnight it’s developed a fault. When I plug it into the mains to charge I get a white screen, when I unplug the charger it’s fine, so obviously it’s not the end of the world but it is annoying that I can’t work when it’s charging…
The problem began when I was reaching the end of my McAffee trial that comes free with the netbook but was more pronounced in that the screen would lapse into white when charging or not and then sort itself out. I wondered if this might be a scare tactic by McAfee to jog me into renewing my subscription (although I’m sure that’s illegal and not very likely in retrospect…) However, I did take out a full subscription and this seemed to rectify the problem, however it was at this stage that the charging issue began.
I’ve run a full system scan in case it’s caused by malware, but this didn’t uncover anything, same for adaware, so I’m guessing this is a mechanical fault?? Has anyone experienced this any what can I do about it – any suggestions appreciated!?
Thanks,

MemberHi Andy,
I had the same problem a while ago. I fidled around a bit with the plug from the charger to the computer and then it sometimes disappeared. I then fully chargeed the battery. When I charge it now everything is normal and now white screen. Keep my fingers crossed.
It has notheing to do with McaFee.Thimo

MemberThanks Thimo!
I just found an alternative solution, when I say “I” I should really say the IT helpdesk where I work – it was just the brightness settings – when you plug in to charge it makes the screen brighter for some reason or other and this can cause this problem it would seem. Just need to reduce the brightness (shortcut Function key +down arrow) and sorted.
What a relief!

MemberMy NC10 has just started doing this. I fully scanned it, thinking I may have picked up a virus. Then I noticed it particularly happened when I was trying to work with it plugged in to the charger. As you say this results in a brighter screen. I’ve subsequently not noticed it happening when it hasn’t been connected. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

MemberThis has started happening as well with my relatively new NC10 particularly when plugged into the mains. Reducing the screen brightness will restore the normal desktop. If I disconnect the power cable and work on battery power at BatteryMgr-Max Performance I can use the brightest setting and all seems to be well so I am assuming it must be something to do with the charging circuit. There are no viruses or malwares present.

MemberI have experienced the same thing with my six month old NC10 as well. Changing the brightness setting seems to work but now I have to do it every time I plug in, so it seems to be getting worse. ..
