Memberi hope this is okay to post in this section, if not my apologies and please delete or move to where appropriate…
i just notice that lots of folks on here are from Britain a few from Japan, South America, etc. and im wondering what they charge you for mobile broadband in your country…..
over here in the U.S. its generally $60 a month for 5 GB maximum data(with severe penalties if you go over 5 gb) with a 2 year contract and there is very little difference between any of the major players, so i/we suspect there is collusion going on over here among AT+T, Verizon, Sprint, etc. as its been this way for about 3 years afaik and doesnt seem like its going to get any better in the near future….they dont compete against each other on price or volume(gb) or on anything else as far as i can see….
how is mobile broadband priced where you live?

MemberWow! That IS expensive.
In the UK the cheapest consumer deal at the moment is with “3” who offer 5gb/month for £15 ($23) on a rolling 30 day contract
T-Mobile have a rolling 30 day bolt-on for a phone contract at £4 ($6)/month for 3gb and £12 ($19)/month for 10gb
Orange provide an SME Business contract (12 months) with unlimited data for £15 ($23)/month
O2 will kindly provide you with a free netbook and 3gb/month for £30 ($47)/month on a 24 month contract

MemberT-Mobile are also the only company who guarantee no surcharges if you exceed the contract data allowance – tho they reserve the right to restrict your access to off peak hours (midnight – 9am) once your allowance has been used.
The others charge sh*t loads

MemberSpain is quite expensive for data as well.
They also have a bizarre system whereby if you exceed a daily quota (irrespective of what your monthly allowance is) then the data rate drops to dial-up speeds. go figure.September 12, 2009 at 12:13 am #200833Alfihar
ParticipantI pay £10 per month (pay as you go) for unlimited data on O2 in the UK, though it does have an excessive usage policy. This is on my phone which I can connect to my computers.

MemberI’m not going to talk about Paraguay lol
WHEN you can get data access, its only on Edge – the telcos there can’t afford/justify upgrading to 3g let alone 3g+ 🙁September 12, 2009 at 12:46 am #200840jeffd150
Membersounds quite a bit better over there in the UK then…i think our phone co’s over here have bought and paid for the politicians in U.S.

Memberi think part of it may be due to the uk having a very competitive phone market (tho that may decrease when t-mobile merges with orange), but possibly its also because the telcos paid such an obscene amount of money to the government for the 3g licenses (if memory serves correctly the UK auction was by far the most expensive in the world) that they have to keep prices down in order to gain customers and generate revenue – as counter-intuitive as this may sound

Memberon the bright side, at least in the US you can still afford to drive your cars (regular unleaded is £1.09/litre at the moment at my local garage) and the cost of housing is far cheaper than over here 🙂

[/quote1252719515]yeah, and the stores over here like Amazon sell for quite a bit cheaper usually, for some reason….i think our phone co’s are screwing us over here though…i bought from a small co. Metro PCS that gives unlimited everything for $57/mo and its month to month, but the big co’s have locked phones, counting minutes, 2 year contracts, etc etc….i think they are crooks…
its funny how some things working a lot better over there and completely diff. sector seems to be working better over here…South America must be cool…i was always interested in Tierra del Fuego i think they call it- the island off Argentina or Chile…probably expensive there now too though?

MemberHi from the land of Nokia and Santa Claus…..
I pay 14.20€ month for 3.6MB unlimited mobile broadband. Though it was a special offer and I was forced to take two year contract from the operator, it is worth it.
The usual in Finland is about 19 euros for 1MB unlimited access (average for 4 operators).

MemberI pay £35 per month for my mobile phone O2 in the UK which includes 1,200 minutes and 1,000 texts per month. This tariff also includes Unlimited Web Bolt On on, though it does have an excessive usage policy. This tariff is on my phone which I use to connect my computers to the internet when I’m out of range of wifi. I have never exceeded my excessive usage policy.

MemberNot forgetting Vodafone UK: £30 for the dongle including 1 gigabyte on pay as you. This doesn’t expire. So if you just want to browse a bit and send e-mails, this can last weeks to months! The you can top up for another non-expiring gigabyte for I think £15.

MemberIreland €20 p/m with O2 for 10 gig iirc.
