MemberI have an nc10 running windows xp home edition. It’s 4 months old. I had a virus on it and so I downloaded Norton’s Anti-virus for Netbooks. It scanned the hard drive, detected several problems, fixed them and then asked me to reboot. When I rebooted, everything went fine until I got to the log-in page. We have four user logins. Whenever I press any of them, it first logs in, then immediately logs back out. I can’t get past this screen. I tried using the basic restore, hoping that would reset the users, but to no apparent avail. Does anyone have any ideas? Jim

Participantjgarrett – Welcome to the forum
You have received some good advice in Jaynes post above.Try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware full scan to check if the system is clean.
If you tried the basic restore using F4 at boot without success then a Full Restore should resolve it but all your data will be lost so take data backups before doing so.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on

MemberI am replying to the suggestions of jeepers01: I want to be careful before I try the complete restore option. I am not concerned about losing data except for the network login data in the internet profile. (Someone else had to come in and establish the wireless connection to my at&t dsl modem. She is not available now.) If I do the complete restore, will I lose that data? I’m not sure that I have another option. The only thing that the computer boots to right now is the log in screen, listing my four users. It will log in and then immediately log right back out whenever I try any of the users. I can’t figure out a way to get to a windows screen so that I can save anything or log on to the internet to load anything. I do have the samsung system recovery media on disk but I don’t have an external cd. Do you agree that the complete restore is my only option? Would using the system recovery media result in the same loss of data? If I took the netbook to a computer repair place, would they be able to work around the problem? I just want the cheapest and safest solution.

Participantjgarrett – Carrying out a system restore really is the last resort and all data and settings will be lost together with any programs you have installed.
If you have tried Jaynes recommendations and run MalwareByes, although I appreciate this would involve transferring the programs etc. to a memory stick, with no luck, then perhaps a restore is the next option.
Not sure if you are familiar with the process but it’s quite simple. As the sammy is booting up press function key F4 and Samsung Recovery Solution will be displayed. Choose Full Restore and the machine will be restored to a position just after you initially set up the machine.
When up and running in XP your router wireless should be detected, click connect and enter your wireless key to connect. Sometimes the key is printed on the router label. If you can’t find it, report back with the router type and number.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on
