MemberNC10 running Windows 7 Ultimate happily for a long time.
I selected Advanced Browser Integration within Internet Download Manager (as I couldn’t download within Internet Explorer) which forced a reboot. Upon coming back I saw the “Please wait” that you usually see, and then the screen went black with a white cursor (that could be moved). After a few seconds it was back to the “Please wait” and then the black cursor. I thought it was loading something so I left it overnight – same thing in the morning.
Safe mode worked, but didn’t help me.
Safe mode with networking didn’t work – same problem with the black screen.
Windows 7’s repair tool found no problems.
So lastly I tried “Last known good configuration” – excellent, I was back in.Oddly some deleted files had been restored, but more annoyingly I noticed all video performance had tanked. This manifested itself as;
Flash videos (youtube etc) – in ‘windowed’ mode (i.e. small) the were fine and smooth, but very jerky in full screen (they were fine before). I have the 10.1 flash player installed, which supports hardware acceleration, although I’ve been told the NC10 does not.
VLC videos – playing standard def video in VLC in a small window looks smooth, but the CPU is being used more than it was before. Full screen video is extremely jerky and looking at the VLC output shows massive % of dropped frames. Playing with this I’ve had limited success by changing the video output to DirectX (DirectDraw), but with this setting I get odd outlining if I try and play high def video. By outlining I mean it looks like someone has drawn along all the lines on the screen.
Media Player Class – Home Cinema – I set this up to use the CoreAVC codec and had it playing 1080p video smoothly without maxing out the CPU. Now it drops frames playing standard def video and goes into slow motion trying to play high def video (the CPU hits 100% doing this).
To fix this I have tried installing the latest drivers for the chipset (from intel – version 8.15.10.1930) as well as all the other available drivers from Samsung.com and Intel.com). No joy. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled VLC (latest leaked version), flash player 10.1, media player classic and coreavc. Nothing is helping.
My Windows Experience Index has also dropped. Previously it was 2.2 which seems to be typical for the NC10. Now it rates Graphics (Aero) at 2.0, so my overall score is also 2.0.
Does anyone out there know what the hell is going on? I’ve spent 2 days on this now and am losing my tiny mind.
Thanks for reading all that…

Participantiluvyoulongtime – Welcome to the forum
You seem to have some serious corruption most likely as a result of the ‘integration’ of the download manager and IE which may be an ‘old’ version.
It might be an idea to uninstall both programs and try Firefox.
Regarding the video driver try 8.15.10.1912 as it appears stable and also gives the increase screen resolution as a bonus.
Re-installing the OS will more than likely solve the issues but hopefully it won’t come to that 🙂
Hope this helps
