Hey guys, lovin the forum but not half as much as my new NC20… I have XP and was trying to access my friends Seagate External Drive last night. When i plugged in the Usb cable my problems started. It picked it up by giving me the eject options and Windows sound to acknowledge it’s plug in plus it’s present on the Device manager. However, it is not on my computer. I’ve renamed my partitioned drive to C and G as I thought it may have been trying to name the External as a similar letter designated by my partitioned drive already, which were originally C and D.
Also I’ve noticed sometimes, well actually most of the time my download speed is quite slow. I had it on my network at work yesterday and seemed to be dragging its heels when updating software wirelessly. My desktop at work is hard wired for the network and is absolutely flying in comparison, should I expect this as its wireless or is there a little tweaking that needs to be done?
Can anyone help please? I know its a lot of info to take in but all my other answers have come from this forum so far n seems the obvious place to join in and get to know you guys.
Cheers in advance.
Welcome to the forum, Cassini 🙂
You could have a look at Seagate’s Knowledge Base – there is an article on External Hard Drive Troubleshooter for XP. It seems to be a common problem with Seagate drives – just try Googling ‘seagate external drive not recognized’.
Wireless networks are slower than wired, but the speed will also depend on the speed of your wireless router (802.11b, g, or draft n) and the strength of the signal. If you give us some more information about your setup – we’ll try and help.
Cheers for the prompt reply TCMuffin. My Router is a ZyXEL Prestige 660 HW-T1 (wireless) router with 802.11g. I have a 3Mb connection, sad but it is good old, stressing old , Ireland I live in. It seems a little slow. My AAO is somewhat faster than the NC20 also. Both connected wirelessly.
