I need (well want) to get 3 or 4 memory sticks –
1 to set up an Acronis Bootable (just in case),
1 to use to experiment with some different OS (having seen some of the threads on here I am curious to try),
1 to maybe make a ‘toolkit’ of useful files I can take to any of the PCs at home… recommendations welcome
1 for general file transfer etc etc
I figure 4Gb (each) should be enough for my needs ….. there are a bunch of different manufactures, but I can’t really see much difference (apart from the U3 portable apps technology … but you seem to be locked in to specific vendors).
So should I just get the cheapest (Ebay from Hong Kong) or stick with some named brand ie Sandisk, Kingston ????
The speeds will vary, that’s one thing to consider, apart from that and the physical build quality any usb memory stick should be fine.
Just make sure you don’t get one which is actually a card reader + card, those are rare though and usually well marked.
Quick tip. If you look for a USB stick which is quoted as being ‘Vista ReadyBoost’ compatible, you know you’ll have one of the faster sticks.
Thanks both ……. any recommendations on tools for my handy toolkit ….. I already use Easycleaner, CCleaner, Duplicate Cleaner and Defraggler…. All my PCs are running McAffee which still has another 2 years of subscription – and I have been happy with…. so I won’t need that removal tool for a while.
Play.com are selling 3 x 4 Gig Sandisk USB drives for £14.99 inc postage.
