Hello, I’m a fairloy new user of the Sammy NC10, and I have been using my netbook happily for a while now.
I was just curious if there is an USB hardware decoder out there for H.264 or some similar codec that’s usable on the NC10. I’m happy with everything on the netbook except it’s limitation on playback of higher resolution video. I tend to rip my movies and such in 720p resolution or higher for my desktop, but it stutters quite a bit on the netbook. I believe this is due to the limitation of the CPU/GPU, but I’m thinking a hardware decoder will probably help.
If anyone knows of one, please let me know! I’d rather avoid having to encode the same video twice for my desktop and netbook. 🙁
Welcome to the forum, Valtzer 🙂
I’m sorry I can’t help with your question, but I’m sure one of the other members will be along soon with an answer.
Never heard about a USB based solution but there are some decoders in the pro / firewire field for lots of $$$.
Out of Interest: Are you ripping Blu-Ray Discs?
Just wondering because otherwise there would be no real reason to rip in 720p.
720p is 1280×720 while a standard DVD has only 704×576 / 720×576 (Widescreen) in PAL and 704×480 / 720×480 (Widescreen) in NTSC.
THank you for the reply, and sorry for the delayed response. I do rip my movies, often times, from blue-ray. When I rip from a DVD, I usually do it at a much smaller resolution (something to the order of 720×400). I was hoping not to spend too much money on it, but I guess the only solutions out there are the more pricey ones. 🙁
I don’t know about a hardware solution but the CoreAVC codec is an excellent software solution. I’ve used it to play HD videos ripped from YouTube.
