MemberI ordered a Samsung N150 Plus (dual core model) netbook and it arrived yesterday (Thursday). I wanted to dual boot xp and it’s been very frustrating doing this. I used a programme called “flashboot” to make my xp disc bootable via usb since this netbook has no disc drive.
On windows 7, I used EASY Partition maker (something like that) to divide the partions(leaving the recovery and system) with Windows 7 having 30 gigs and the remaining for XP. When booting up flashboot from my usb, it said there were no partitions available to install on. I then used the FDISK tool included and I deleted the “XP” (remaining) partition I previously made with EASY.
I then had to restart the netbook and it wouldn’t boot up windows 7. I then pressed F4 for recovery but that wouldn’t load up either. I went into FDISK and I found out that there’s only two partitions left: The System partition and a partition with the remaining space. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE! IT’S DELETED ALL THE PARTITIONS (EXCLUDING SYSTEM). WHAT CAN I DO TO GET BACK THE RECOVERY OR WINDOWS 7 PARTITION?!
I don’t think it’s formated just yet tbh because formating normally takes some time to do and all I did was delete the remaining space used to make an XP Partition. There was no screen with a loading showing it’s formating. Perhaps it’s just modified the partition tables? I’m not going to do anything else until I get advice because I really want it retrieve my files if it’s possible.
Any help is much appreciated.

MemberWhen I go into FDISK ‘Display Partition Information’, this is what I see:

MemberThat leaves 21463 Megabytes not displayed in there which is near enough to be the 20 gigs for the Recovery Partition?
Any help is much appreciated.

MemberOk. I found out the Partition table is mucked up. I downloaded ‘ultimate boot cd’ and booted it off a usb flash drive. I’m using test disk which is under parted magic.
I anylase the hdd and it finds the partitions and I click ‘write’ and it tells me to restart the netbook for it to do it’s think. But whenever I do restart it, it does nothing.
What do I need to do to get test disk working?

MemberOk. I’ve installed Xp using a method on this forum. However, I can’t boot into xp without using the usb flash drive I used to install XP. I assume it’s to do with the boot.ini file on the usb. When I go into My Computer, I can see the Recovery Partition as C yet when I tap F4 it says invalid sector or something like that. I’ve only had this netbook for 2 days and I’ve messed it up already.
How would I go about put everything right? I have all the files from Recovery and Windows 7 Starter. For some reason none of those work. Please someone help!

ParticipantEstebanK0 – Welcome to the forum
The MBR has been corrupted so SRS will not function.
If you install Win7 to C: and XP to D: then the [F4] SRS at boot should function. The Samsung Admin Tool can be used to ‘fix’ the MBR and then carry out a full recovery via [F4] at boot. This will recover Win 7 on the C: drive using the image in the Recovery partition.
Then use this post to install XP on the D: drive if you wish to. (IMHO Win 7 is much better than XP and I never boot to XP on my dual boot system.)

MemberHi Jeepers01. Thank you so much for responding. I don’t care about Windows xp anymore tbh. I just want it back to my original state. However there is a major problem. When I boot into xp from my usb and go to My computer, this is what I see:
C: Recovery
D: Windows XP
E: (Empty)
F: System
G: Windows 7I made 2 new partitions in Windows 7 before by splitting the exisiting Windows 7. If I install Windows 7 to Drive, my recovery will go will it not? Thank you.

ParticipantEstebanK0 – You have the recovery partition shown so as long as it’s still got the data in it you should be able to get Win 7 back on the C: drive.
Download the Admin Tool and create a bootable USB stick with it on. Instructions here.
Note: the link to SRS4 Admin Tool is in dosibox’s French first post in the above thread in section 2.4.1Change the boot order priority to USB HDD, best done with the stick inserted. Once in the main menu of the Admin Tool, [CTRL]+[ALT]+[F10] and password = secos. Then choose MBR Fix from the menus.
Note: this assumes you have SRS4 on your system. If you have SRS5 let us know as there is a Tool for that version available if required.Unplug the stick and re-boot choosing [F4] and then ‘Full Restore’ which will write the Win 7 image from the Recovery partition to the C: drive.
Once the sammy is stable you can deal with the unwanted partitions afterwards using Easeus Partition Master (free).
Hope this helps

ParticipantEstebanK0 – Re-reading your post again I notice that XP is reporting the Recovery partition as C:. The Recovery partition is supposed to be a hidden partition not visible to Windows. Therefore if you get errors when attempting the SRS [F4] recovery you may have to hide the Recovery partition first if the Admin Tool fails to do this.
This can be done with the diskpart command by setting the partition type to 27.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

MemberHi. I can no longer boot into XP as I formatted my USB flashdrive which was used to boot XP and I can no longer get it into the state of booting XP.
I formatted the USB flash drive FAT 32 and extracted Admin Tool 5 via Winrar onto the flash drive. When I boot the flash drive up I keep getting a ‘disk error’. I then tried Admin Tool 4 but I still get the same error. Can you help? Thank you.
I may resort to calling ebuyer and get them to replace the netbook since I’ve only had it for 3 days and I’ll just say after turning on the netbook and it began setting itself up for the first time, I could no longer boot afterwards. They have a return policy within 14 days.
I would prefer however to sort it out now really. If you can help it’ll be much appreciated. Thank you.

ParticipantEstebanK0 – Try another USB stick and do not format it, just expand the .iso directly to it.
Works for me.Hope this helps

Is there a specific usb flash drive you used? Should it be FAT, FAT32 or NTFS? Thanks.
