MemberHi,
Anyone tried upgrading their NC10 to UNR 10.04? I would like to know if any tinkering is involved as I have a horrendous amount of uni work to do atm and will put off upgrading until after the deadline if this is the case!

MemberPersonally, I’d suggest that Uni comes FIRST… but then I’m a 70 yr old has been, with only one GCE to my credit. If I’d concentrated, I might have been – Oh, lets say, Top Gun in the Royal Bank of Scotland earning as much in one year, as what I earned in my life time…

Memberyea, i’ve tried UNR 10.04, and yes it is great. Battery life is comparible to that of windows XP Sp3, roughly 7-10 watts. One problem which I have noticed is the absence of the panel preferences. Unfortuately the brightness keys don’t work, so you have to manually change them through the terminal.
One more important thing, I believe the sammys are unfortunately affected by the ACPI bug which dramtically increases the load / unload cycle of the head in the harddisk and that is something you DO NOT want since it means dramatic decrease in hdd life. “Don’t quote me on the finding” I only briefly monitored the SMART data but I believe it was increasing every minute or so (not good).
So i guess you can either stay clear, or check if your sammy is affected.
By the way aesthically it looks AMAZING especially with the appearance option maxed even on the GMA 3150.May 6, 2010 at 4:25 pm #213066isx

[/quote1274223010]Just wondering how safe this is. It says “You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:voria/ppa to your system’s Software Sources.” Also, not sure how to install this exactly. I’m new to Ubuntu.
EDIT: Never mind. Chanced it after doing more research and installed it easily. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time.
Thanks.
