MemberHi all,
I’ve been using a site called tvcatchup.com, it basically gives you a number of the freeview channels to watch on your pc and netbook via streaming to your web browser. Works well on the Sammy. It is a beta but I’ve never had a problem
They have also released a desktop player which you can make full screen.
The channels include all the normal terrestrial ones, other BBC and ITV channels, Dave, More 4, Fiver and Film 4 amongst others. The desktop player has a couple more.May 10, 2009 at 9:11 pm #191177jeepers01
ParticipantThanks for sharing that topcat
Its quite a slick player and the live streaming quality is better than from bbc and itv sites in my opinion.
You have to join the beta test programme to get a key, then download the desktop player and your up and running. Registration is email and password.
Right clicking in the web version also gets full screen as wellThey say that a forthcoming beta will allow recording as well. Worth waiting for.
I particularly like the tv programme guide and whats on now and next feature. Plus you can do that whilst watching your programme uninterupted in the desktop version.
As you say it works well on the Sammy, but as to how long it will be free for when the beta testing finishes is up for debate 🙂

MemberYeah looks good, especially to someone who gets rubbish digital TV reception!
Will have to sign up later!
I also wonder what their long term business plan is, is it a private company? I guess the US has sites like this that are running free so perhaps it can work.
With a TV tuner USB stick you can get this telly on your Sammy for free anyway so it’s hard to see how a pay per view model could work. If I’m at home I’ll use my TV (if the reception is good lol!) and if on the move my broadband mobile is too expensive/slow. But those things should improve I expect 🙂

Memberthanks , it’s nice to be able to give something back to the forums. This is a great site and I always make a point of visiting to keep abreast of the latest news and the advice that is freely given.
i suspect that some sort of advertising might be how the developers go. They have something on the website player already. Not too intrusive and only at the start when you change channels sometimes. it may get worse, but for the time being means I can watch the gadget show later tonight whilst she who must be obeyed can watch the soaps on the big telly 🙁

Oh…..and don’t we all know that feeling 😉May 12, 2009 at 4:25 pm #191176Siddas
MemberThere is a similar stand alone player at http://zattoo.com/ – they broadcast what they call HiQ of one or two channels. It looks pretty impressive in the HiQ version. There is also a tv guide – it isn’t fully stocked though.
From memory you can use a false email address – just make sure you remember your username and password. Or just re-register if you forget it 😉
