MemberMy newby crustyness hasn’t worn off yet so….
I gather upgrading my N110 to 2GB ram is a good thing,…and that upgrading to Win7 HP isn’t necesarily a good thing because of speed and battery considerations.
I read in the forum about upgrading BIOS. My Sammy is a month old with Win7Starter. Will I need to re-BIOS or not and, if not, when will I know so to do and, indeed, what will it do for me or the Sammy?
I’m looking for an FAQ to tell me about the ‘Thank Post’ logo. Having expressed my thanks to responders to my queries I find in my Profile I am credited wth no Thanked Posts.Any thoughts would be welcome and thanked profusely.

ParticipantUpgrading to 2GB RAM used to be a no brainer as the RAM was so cheap, now that the prices have gone up a bit it’s a little harder to justify. However I would upgrade if you are considering installing Windows 7 as it’s RAM usage can be quite a bit higher than XP’s. That said Windows 7 will work fine with 1GB RAM. If you aren’t running many programs at the same time then you a likely to not even use the 1GB fully, so upgrading to 2GB won’t have any effect.
BIOS wise if you go into the BIOS by pressing F2 at startup, on the Main tab the BIOS and MICOM versions are listed. You can compare the version here to the latest one thats available to download from Samsungs website.
As for whether it is worth updating the BIOS, it is recommended that you have the latest version if you are running Windows 7 (or Vista) as it corrects some issues with the backlight control (There are also some benefits if you are running Linux).
Though as your netbook is so new and it came with 7, it will most likely be running the latest BIOS anyway.
Regarding Windows 7 Home Premium, well I haven’t used it, however 7 Professional and 7 Ultimate both run pretty fast on my NC10, and the battery life doesn’t seem to have been impacted that much compared with XP (shouldn’t really be much of a difference if any between 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional etc…).
As for the ‘Thank Post’ thing. In your profile the ‘Thanked Posts’ is the number of times someone else has thanked one of your posts. The ‘Thanks given’ is the number of times you’ve thanked someone else’s post. The links to thank a post are in the bottom right hand corner of every forum post except your own.

ParticipantEggbox – I would say that if your N110 is running well then if it ain’t broke don’t fix it 🙂
I only upgrade the bios if there is a tangible benefit by doing so, else I leave it alone.
The problem is that Samsung do not issue bios notes on the changes so I would wait until other forum members post noted improvements before considering changing the bios.
If you have thanked posts with the “Thank Post” button then your profile should list the thanked posts. If it is not doing this then PM jez and ask him to resolve the issue.
Hope this helps

MemberI have to say that my Battery life is not so long running Windows 7 ultimate on my NC10 as compared to XP, But whether this is to do with battery manager program not running on 7 I cant say. I could get 5-6 hours on XP now its 3-4 on 7

MemberEggbox,
I’ve posted several times now that my N110 runs the Home Premium upgrade with 1GB perfectly – so well, in fact, that I have no intention of upgrading any time soon…
