Hi I just brought an n120 off ebay it is running 7 via an XP upgrade package. however the brightness control (Fn+^) does not work. the seller told me this is a common fault and that i should go to the control panel > battery control and change the power saving option. however the slider that should be there to do this is not there.
has anyone else has this problem? if so is there anyway to fix it?
Try going to Samsung’s website and download then (re)install the Samsung Easy Display Manager.
Additionally make sure you have the latest BIOS (Firmware), as it’s needed for the correct operation of brightness control under Windows 7.
ok thanks. I will try that. how do i check if i have the right bios?
sorry i am not great with pooters. should i uninstall the easy display manger before i download and install the new one?
I would be tempted to uninstall the Easy Display Manager first, just in case you have the Windows XP version installed.
If you press F2 at startup to get into the BIOS, you can then use the left arrow key to move to the Main tab. It should specify the BIOS and MICOM versions, I think 07CE is the latest version for the N120.
Lewt – Welcome to the forum
There are a couple of useful free applications that you might find helpful to audit your new machine.
Belarc Advisor will tell you all about the hardware and software and will also confirm the bios version under the main circuit board section. (you need version 07CE for full EDM support in Win 7)
DriverMax will present a list of all the drivers and versions installed and will offer the latest versions for download if required. The required drivers can then be downloaded from the Samsung download site.
For power management download the Samsung Easy Battery Manager which will install the Samsung Optimized power scheme. When setting up this power scheme go to advanced and set the max processor state to 100% as this will greatly speed performance when running on battery. See below.
I also set the ‘when playing video’ to ‘optimize video quality’ as well on battery.
Hope this helps
