Participant[quote1234380286=chuf]I don’t know if i did the right thing, if there is such a thing, but i carried on using the C drive for all my stuff and backed up to the D drive – was this stupid or really stupid ? [/quote1234380286]
I wouldn’t say that was stupid at all, there are some benefits to storing data on the D drive (which TCMuffin mentioned a few posts up). However the way the NC10 comes as default it’s setup for you to store everything on the C drive and backup to the D using the Samsung Recovery Software. As long as you know where your files are and you keep a backup of them somewhere else (unless you don’t mind losing them), it’s fine.

That’s a perfectly valid way of doing things, Chuf 🙂 At least you have a backup. At some point you may want to back up your stuff on something other than your NC10 – in case you have a catastrophic problem, e.g. a hard disk failure. When you’re ready to do this we’re around to help.

MemberI’m a new sammy user myself and have done some of what has been suggested.
I didn’t bother partioning and back-up using on older external hard drive. Mainly b/c I just never know how much space I will need for programs (didn’t know if I wanted to install older games for example at the time) vs data and didn’t want to get stuck partitioning the wrong % for either before hand.
CCleaner is a great quick program. I find after a couple of days of surfing (hey its a netbook right) – there is a lot of accumulated crap that sloooows….the…..sys….tem…….dooooowwn. CCleaner is quick and easy to get it back up and running.
I didn’t disable McAfee – it’s been faithful to me for more than 7 years. This is personal preference though and there are those that use it even for a netbook and those that don’t.
DriverMax is a great idea. After 2 weeks by bluetooth stopped connecting. Honestly, I was too lazy to hook up my optical to find the original drivers on the CD. But was able to update the driver and now its fine.
Also, I found TwoFingerScroll to be useful even though I use a mouse 90% of the time. The chiral spiral and scroll areas are ok – don’t always p/u on sensitivity, even after playing with the settings, and chiral sometimes gives me a cramp. But TwoFingerScroll is much more useful IMO.

MemberThank you, Mymy
Our cute ‘waggy tail’ is called Badger.
He’s our border collie who we inherited from our vets after he’d had his left leg and shoulder shattered by being stepped on by a shire horse when he was only five weeks old !sad
The owner of the farm where he was born didn’t want to pay for his treatment and didn’t want him back because he wouldn’t be able to work and therefore wanted him euthanised ~:(
Our vets intervened and operated on him twice and then asked us to give him a home when he was 17 weeks old. We did and the farmer’s loss was our gain 🙂
Badger still goes to hydrotherapy once a week (hence the photo) and has grown into a brilliant dog who comes to work with me most days !amazed

MemberNot sure what I have done but I don’t receive notification to this thread so just saw your post.
What a traumatising way to start his life. Badger is lucky to have you and you too :). Is he happy with NC10?
I have just received the 2GB woof woof! Do I need to save anything before installing it?

Member!lol Badger loves his new NC10 – he uses the shiny black lid as a mirror when he’s out and about !lol
No. You know your NC10 is working properly before you update the RAM.
Be sure you keep the Samsung supplied RAM – if you subsequently have a problem with your NC10, Samsung customer services will ask you to reinstall the original memory chip.
Jez has written an excellent guide to installing the 2 GB RAM chip.

MemberI just checked and I see my C: drive is “64.5 GB free” and my D: is “71.8GB free”. Do I need to change this? I’m going to store my word documents, and photos in the D drive.
I got rid of macafee and added avastar. I haven’t bought the ram upgrade yet.
Thanks,
Monica

You could do with less space on the C: and more on the D: drive. There’s a useful thread ‘Is there a way to re-partition the hard drive?‘ which should help if you want to try to resize your drives.

MemberThanks, I’ll read up on it. I hope it’s easy, as I really don’t know much about computers.
