Memberhi guys
Just a quick question about a windows 7 install. I’m thinking of installing 7 on my NC10 – I don’t like dual boot systems (too much to keep updated) but I may wish to recover to the factory recovery XP at some point. I’m not keen on installing to a separate partition either. So the questions is, if I wipe my C: drive and install 7 from scratch – would i still be able to F4 into recovery and restore my Windows XP image? I won’t change the partition sizes when installing 7 (I set it up 30/70% which hould give me loads of space on C).
Has anybody done this succesfully?
Thanks!November 5, 2009 at 1:38 pm #204301studavis

MemberI’m not sure of the answer so I can’t tell you.
On one hand, the F4 boot program doesn’t need XP to restore the XP partition.
On the other hand, I read, you have to have XP installed to restore it.
So I’m not sure…November 5, 2009 at 3:05 pm #204300TCMuffin

No – installing Win7 will overwrite your MBR and stop you from booting into the recovery partition.Create a backup image of your system before you do anything and you’ll be able to recreate your XP system.

MemberI’ve had Windows 7 on my NC10 and have successfully “rolled back” to XP, I’ve installed Windows 7 again and I’m sure I will be able to go back to XP using the recovery software (if I really wanted to that is!)

[/quote1258554066]Care to share how you “rolled back” to XP?. I’ve installed windows 7 along with the samsung win 7 drivers, software, and firmware, and find the internet very slow. Both Firefox and IE load slowly and accessing any website takes 3-5 minutes or longer. I’m still trying to work through it, but would like the optioin of going back if I have to. Thanks.

MemberOk. I rolled it back with F4. Apparently my win7 install left the Samsung Recovery III function intact.

MemberI too have been able to reinstall Win XP after installing Win7 Pro.
Simple Steps to install and remove Windows 7
1) In Win XP install the latest firmware – 11CA I think!!
2) Boot using Win 7 DVD
3) Select Custom Installation and selectyour C drive partition (usually the second of three). It will state that there has been a previous version of Windows installed and that it is being saved as Windows.old
4) Run through Windows 7 setupl. When installed add on all of the Win7 drivers and software. Interstingly even though you install Recovery Solution 4 , when you run the recovery package it is called Recovery Solution 3 Upgrade.
5) So…..you having tried Windows 7 you want to go back to WinXP. You can either boot using F4 or load the recovery proggie in Windows 7.
6) Voila – job done – Windows XP should be back up and running in less than 5 minutes:)S
