Ops, the module I installed (and it works great!) is different: KVR800D3S8S6/2G (KINGSTON 2GB 800MHZ DDR3 NON-ECC CL6 SODIMM), if I understand the different code, it seems that “yours” has higher specs…
According to the Kingston site:
KVR1333D3S9/2G: Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 1333MHz 204-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (DDR3, 1.5V, CL9, FBGA, Gold)
KVR800D3S8S6/2G: Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 800MHz 204-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (DDR3, 1.5V, CL6, FBGA, Gold)
So same form factor but different speed: according to Samsung.com the NF310 uses DDR3 667MHz memory
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops/NP-NF310-A01US-features
so both modules exceed the manifacturer specs…

MemberIndeed…but is what I found, did you notice any performance improovment upgrading at 2 Gb? the standard works at 1066Mhz so the one that i’ve found should be ok, but i wish to have any “confirmation” :-p

Yes, under Windows 7 I can say the upgrade to 2GB is welcome, the system is snappier and opening multiple tabs in Firefox doesn’t hurt the performance as before!
Regarding the clock of the ram modules, I’ve got the results from the Windows 7 performance test with the original 1GB module, which gave an index of 4,5; tonight (now I do not have the little beast with me…) I will repeat the test with the new one and report the results!

I can’t speak for the Kingston, but this one works great:

MemberOK, which memory value are you getting with Win performance test after the upgrade?

MemberI too must agree that I experienced a very noticeable boost (NF210) by switching to the 2GB module. Took only seconds to do, and the difference was substantial.
The card that worked for me is: “Patriot Signature 2GB DDR3 1066MHz CL7 SODIMM (PSD32G10662S)”

Indeed, would be nice to see your results after the upgrade at 2 GB 😀

Here I am, test repeated with the Kingston KVR800D3S8S6/2G module installed:
Memory index is gone from the original 4,5 to 4,7 (all the other values unchanged)

Memberto fix the brightness problem on linux just open /lib/udev/rules.d/95-keyboard-force-release.rules in nano or gedit (as root) and in this section:
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}==”[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*”, ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}==”*E252*|*N120*|*N128*|*N130*|*N140*|*N148/N208*[….]
insert NF310 before the other models. the result shoult be like this:
ENV{DMI_VENDOR}==”[sS][aA][mM][sS][uU][nN][gG]*”, ATTR{[dmi/id]product_name}==”*NF310*|*E252*|*N120*|*N128*|*N130*|*N140*|*N148/N208*[….]
copy and paste to avoid errors
obviously all that should be done after installed samsung backlight and tools.
reboot and enjoyDecember 4, 2010 at 5:32 am #216844Andre77ab

MemberJust curious about trying to test Linux on the NF310 – presumably via USB stick. Does anyone who has tried it have any advice – will the machine boot from the stick automatically or will I have to tinker with the boot order somehow? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I’ve just unpacked it and installed 2GB RAM of faster RAM (Corsair), with no problem at all – it was far easier than the incorrect instructions on the Samsung page led me to believe. Now I want to start working on replacing Win7 starter…

MemberYes, you will need to get into the BIOS and change the boot order so that the USB HDD (I seem to recall that the memory stick was seen as a HDD) is before your real hard drive on the system. After that, your linux stick should boot fine. For me, I have no real pressing space issues so I left the win7 starter in place when I installed my 3 linux distros. (Arch, Ubuntu, and Mint). The win7 starter can come in real handy for BIOS updates and such in the future. I think it only takes up about 14gb of the drive.
Have fun
cheers
