MemberHi Guys. I’m a newbee. I read that I need to connect my wired desktop PC to my new wireless N120 in order to get wireless internet in my home. What is the best access point router I should get in order to do this? I read about the Netgear WPN824. Is this what I need to buy so I can get wireless internet on my new netbook? Any info you can give is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Ty

ParticipantWhat kind of internet connection do you have?
e.g. ADSL broadband, 56k Dialup, Cable. It would be best to add a wireless router and then connect both the desktop PC and netbook to it. The type you need depends on your internet connection.
The Netgear WPN824 should be fine if you are using it with a separate modem, if for example you have a cable connection that came with an ethernet connected modem. If however you have ADSL then a different router with an inbuilt ADSL modem would probably be better.

What router do you have at the moment?December 8, 2009 at 7:16 pm #206984Ty
MemberHi Jeepers01,
I haven’t bought one yet. I was planning to buy the Netgear WPN824 today but I wanted to find out if this is the right thing to buy. I have a PoE adapter connected to the internet cable wire on my desktop wired PC. I just retired to the middle of nowhere and I’m working with a local internet satelite provider. I didn’t realize getting wireless internet on this new netbook would be so difficult. Help.December 8, 2009 at 9:56 pm #206981jeepers01
ParticipantTy – It should be ok as Netgear have a good reputation and provide good routers. My DG834G has been very reliable on ADSL here in the UK. If you are not totally sure why not buy it on a sale or return basis just in case it turns out not to be the one for you (unlikely though)
You will need another network lead with RJ45 connectors (see dockehr’s post in your other thread) between the satellite PoE adapter and the new wireless router. A connection between the pc and the new router will be required temporarily in order to set up the router parameters (wireless encryption and key etc).
Thereafter you can enjoy wireless to your sammy 🙂Hope this helps and keep us posted. Any problems just ask
btw enjoy your retirement
