MemberHi everyone, I’m a newbie, but wondered if anyone can give me any advice as I joined this forum as you deal specifically with Samsung problems and oh boy do I have one!
I purchased my nc10 back in July 2009 from CDiscount so it is now well out of warranty.
It worked fine for a few months until it developed the ‘white screen’ fault many others have since reported. I e-mailed Samsung about it, and all they said was ‘use the arrows to reduce the brightness of the screen’. I have been able to solve the issue by doing just that or by adjusting the angle of the screen, but last night, the netbook just kept turning itself off and the screen went haywire and was blue with vertical lines like barcdes down the right hand side. The next thing, to my horror, smoke started coming up through the keyboard and I could smell burning!!!! Jeez!
Luckily I still have my ancient desktop, but I loved my little netbook as it’s so easy to transport etc.
I have discovered from various forums there has been a fault with the screen of this particular model since it was developed, so what are my chances of getting it repaired do you think, as although I reported the problem at it’s outset to Samsung, I was not really given the correct help especially if they knew it was an inherent wiring problem between the screen and motherboard as previously mentioned. (I have only discovered this fact today while searching for possible reasons why my Sammy went into literal meltdown!)
Many thanks in advance for any advice you may have for me.November 16, 2010 at 5:19 am #217072blagirl
MemberHi Silversurfer. Smoke came up from the Keyboard and you smelled buring???? Ohhhh… :< Did you call them and tell about what happened? I think 'White screen' is a common problem that lots of users have had and they've already known about it, so that you can get repaired it without any repair fee.

MemberYikes, I think if smoke is coming out of your netbook then the problem goes a little beyond the scope of our little forum!
Are you in the UK? digicare.co.uk are the official repair peeps so will be able to help (for a fee as out of warranty!). I suspect though it might be more economical to buy a new one – although one would think these PCs should last longer than that :(.November 16, 2010 at 11:58 am #217074silversurfer
MemberHi again and thanks for your replies jez and blagirl. Yes I am in the UK and I have been in touch with the Samsung Customer Service Helpline who took all the details and have arranged for a courier to collect the Netbook and take it to the Digicare Service Centre this afternoon in Burnley which is the nearest to me. I have enclosed a letter explaining in full what happened so I’m hoping they will repair it for free! I freaked out when the smoke started coming out of it so I just hope my hard drive is intact as I haven’t backed it up as I don’t have a device for doing so – yes I know, silly me!
If this gets fixed to my satisfaction (and at no expense to me!) then a ‘Clickfree’ or similar system will be the next item I really must buy – there’s 1 Terrabyte one on QVC today in fact!
I will let you know how I get on, but thanks for your interest!November 19, 2010 at 11:20 am #217073__spc__
MemberI’ve had my machine back within 7 days on the two occasions I’ve had it repaired…

MemberHello again! Just to update you about my NC10 – well it arrived back safe and sound a couple of hours ago from Digicare and to be honest, I was really apprehensive after reading reviews about this company and the way it sometimes treats your precious machine.
However, I can honestly say I’m impressed!
It came back in the original protective cover and polystyrene end protectors I sent it in, so no scratches on the casing as I half expected!
They have either replaced the LCD screen (or cleaned it so well it looks as good as new!), replaced the internal wiring from the screen, replaced the motherboard, cleaned the keyboard and even updated the Bios for me and it’s now working a treat … (touch wood!)
It now looks like a brand new netbook and the icing on the cake was it was all done for free even though it was 4 months outside the Warranty, so well done Digicare!:)November 23, 2010 at 8:01 pm #217076celicastu
Memberhi ive had this white screen prob for ages had the screen ribon changed twice and just by accident if u have ur power cable pluged in and ur battery in at the same time it goes white try taking the battery out but leave ur cable plugged in and hey presto it works fine so i recon its the battery that has a fault so here if u close ur net book put ur battery back in and charge it up. then only use it without the plug in on the move or were u only want to use the battery. if u are in the house or anywere u can use the plug remove the battery it works 100% fine honest mines ok now. and works ok with just the battery hope this helps everyone cause i know its been a pain and its such a good comp other wise. sorry for my spelling 😎
