MemberHi. I’m new to this forum and am very impressed with the quality of postings and replies. I have an NC10, which hasn’t been switched on yet, so I have not performed any set-up procedures i.e. partitioning, backups etc. I have had several PC’s over the years and have never had to perform this operation before. On looking on various forums about partitioning, it seems opinions are divided. Two main preferences seem to be either a small partition for C (OS and applications) and a large partition for D (for data), e.g. 25/75, 40/60 etc. or, one large C drive. (BTW that is what I’ve been used to in the past). They both seem to have their pros and con’s. So much so, that I am now at a bit of a loss as to what route to take. I have 2 brand new 320GB 7200 HDDs at my disposal, which were destined for an abandoned project. I also have an external USB HDD, a USB 2.5†HDD caddy, a USB DVD writer and Acronis True Image. My question is this. Would it be possible to clone/image the existing HDD in the NC10 onto one of the new ones BEFORE performing the set-up procedure? And if so, how? I was thinking if it were then I could set-up/partition the new HDD in one configuration. If I did not like it then I could re-image the original again on to the second one and set that up in another configuration. I could keep the original as my pristine “backupâ€. I am only thinking of these possibilities as I have the 2 drives to hand and I can’t return them. I would be most grateful for any replies and give my thanks in advance for anyone taking the trouble. I am very much a novice to all this and would really appreciate any reply in the simplest possible terms. I have used Acronis before to make simple back-ups but have shied away from any re-partitioning of drives in case I botched it. So that gives a clue to my competence! Also please forgive the long-winded posting. Thanks.

Participantkathanddai – Welcome to the forum
You have Acronis True Image so you could image the drive, after removing it, on another pc connecting to it with your usb caddy.
IMO I wouldn’t be too concerned about the drive size splits as these can easily be changed later with Easus Partition Manager Express

MemberThanks jeepers01. I’ll have a go at your suggestion. That’s what I was hoping I could do but not really sure if it was possible. I’ll let you know result.

MemberHi jeepers01. Adopted your suggestions. All went fine with the imaging and installation. However something went wrong on the initial partitioning side of things. I selected 30GB for C drive but ended up with 112GB!! Don’t know what happened there, as I was especially careful in the setting up and choosing the right values. Anyway no harm done as I now know I can redo it any time from the untouched original drive with more confidence. Thanks very much indeed for your help.

Participantkathanddai – Your welcome, glad it worked out well but you can always resize with Easus if you need to reclaim some more space.
