MemberHey guys, ive read alot here about this sort of thing but not quite for my needs, i just wonder if anybody knows the pinout for the usb port that the webcam is connected to.
to clarify, the port that says WEBCAM is a usb port yes? so if i were to have no use for my webcam.. which i dont, can i just attach the four wires in the correct order and the ground wire to the ground point ect. i can plug in a usb device… im assuming its a yes for all of the above… but the trouble is, i dont wanna go messing the wireing up and making a mess out of my motherboard.. so does anybody know the pinout to take that webcam port to a “female” usb port to plug in say a flash drive or other usb device in???
yes its for putting usb devices into my nc10 😉April 2, 2011 at 8:41 pm #218617jeepers01

MemberHey, thanks for your reply, indeed ive looked good and hard at every page of this thread at great length, thats what lead me to this point… basicly its the same deal. im looking to jack into that port one way or another, but the be all and end all is my lack of confidence in the pinout, im quite sure its layed out standardly, but to cut to the chase im about to find out.. ive just spent the better part of half an hour digging the webcam and cable out of the nc10 and ive ran it out of the ram access panel, just for now.. im going to hook up a usb device and see what happens,.. fingers crossed kids. 😉
if all goes well ive got an internal usb port out of an old vio that fits the bill and il be using that to connect my internal usb device.. it looks not unlike the ones you see in that thread above 😉
i should also mention that i have scoured the net for somthing to use for this but come to the conclusion that buying one just isnt worth the money if i can do it for free myself with a bit of extra effort.April 3, 2011 at 11:38 am #218618jeepers01
Participantyodaco – As a suggestion check out the pins with a multimeter to identify the +5Volt and ground connections and then the orientation of the data pins can be confirmed when referring to the USB A pinout.
Out of interest why do you need an extra USB port?
Hope this helps and good luck with the mod 🙂

Memberhey, im trying to upload the picture but it says unable to copy file 🙁
ive figured out the pinout anyways, ive also added an internal usb device, inthe form of a very tiny usb soundcard.. and why i hear you ask, well, some time ago i had a little accident involving my headphone jack.. needless to say soldering a new jack on was far less than an option, so i had to settle for a usb soundcard… its been in my way ever since..and now its nicely snug next to my sd card slot there is a headphone and mic jack.. 😉 any idea why i cant upload my pics?????April 3, 2011 at 3:44 pm #218621April 3, 2011 at 4:10 pm #218622yodaco
MemberWell.. heres links to the pics of the mod at various stages.. no internals but its nothing you havent seen before..
you can see that my device sticks out a bit, i used white epoxy resin to set the device in place and then later moulded around it with some harder epoxy putty to make a smooth finnish and ensure the device is nice and firmly in place 😉 plus its whitei used needles to work out the pinout of my usb device to the camera port.. i had a few educated guesses but it worked just fine. in princible if you took your webcam out and flipped it over so the cam faces away from you the wires coming out woud be in the same order as you would have to wire it up into your usb device.. but the hard part is making sure you dont get it totaly backwards,
to avoid error.. you can see the Ground wire is seperate from the motherboard clip but not on the webcam boards clip, if your looking at the back of your webcam the earth is the thick black wire on the far left hand side, then Orange-Red-Brown-Black
the same wire up must go into the usb device in the same order, bare in mind your looking at the top of the usb socket on your device as if it were plugged in. some devices plug in face down.. dont forget to check it all out first.
but its the same left to right ORANGE RED BROWN BLACK and the earth wire can be connected to the metal clip of the device, or where the clip would attach to your device if your removing the usb end all together 😉
i hope this all makes sense.. im sorry my spelling is lame

PICS>>I’m glad you managed to get a new soundcard to work in there, but too bad you had to sacrifice the webcam.
Please note that on a netbook there are usually tons of USB ports (at least 8), some used some not.
I’m speaking for the N150/N210/N220/NB30 in this case, but I’m pretty sure other models should be similar or identical.
If I was to modify something I would start using these 2 available ports:
1) USB port for TSP (touch screen panel, used in the NB30)
2) USB port on mini PCI-e (shared between the 2 slots, one populated, second typically not). If you are using the original Mini PCI-e WLan card (which has PCI-E interface) you are not using the USB pins, and therefore it is available. This is also true if you have a Broadcom Crystal HD card inserted in the second slot.In addition you have the SD card reader, Bluetooth, Webcam and the 3 external USB ports, but I’m not sure you are ready to give up on these.
Just make sure you also find a good spot to get the +5V supply, mostly if you are using devices that require a significant amount of current.
Again, for the N150 the place could be the unpopulated subwoofer amplifier, which is has been designed for 1.5A.Tip: with SiSoft Sandra (even the free light version) you can see a clear mapping of all the available ports and corresponding numbers.
Cheers
