MemberHi all
I’m having real stuttering issues on HD playback on YouTube and even worse on Vimeo…
Now I’ve got the Flash 10.1 update, updated the drivers to the very latest for the Crystal HD Broadcom card and ensured my power savings options allow 100% processor use and are set on “optimize video”.
II’ve checked the check-box in flash to “allow harware acceleration” too… any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?
I have also had the same problems when importing an hd video file into Windows Live Movie Maker (although I understand its a netbook and not necessarily designed for such things) I know people have got HD playback to work on the N220 through these means!!!
Anyone please help!

Memberjohn_pawson,
Its weird isn’t it, it does seem a bit hit and miss, seems to work better for some than for others, not sure why.
I can play Youtube SD and HD relatively OK now, but BBC iPlayer is a bit jerky and not playable at all on HD. I didn’t try many on Vimeo, but I picked a few and turned HD on, they seemed to play OK but I couldn’t establish the res.
What speed is your ISP link. I find with mine that sometimes its better speed wise than others, and when its bad I have to let the video ‘buffer’ a bit by pausing, before starting to play.
what browser are you using?
I’ve installed Flash 10.1, and Broadcom 3.7.0.0, the CPU speed tweaks you mention, and the latest Opera on my N220, so they sound similar systems S/W wise (if you have Opera?).
If you download and play this locally – “big_buck_bunny_1080p_h264.mov” from – http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/ – does it play OK and relatively smoothly? it did for me. The are various files types to try. I used the H264 1920×1080.
Its also on YouTube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk&feature=related in 4 res’s upto 1080p. At the moment I have to buffer it a bit before starting to play, but its playing OK once started.
Have you tried the change to put the PC into speed mode? It’s worth a try I guess.
Also, when you play locally on your netbook, what video player do you use? For example, that ‘Big Bunny’ video above plays better in Windows Media player (OK & quite smooth) for me than it does in VLC (quite jerky). GOM is another one to try.
Run Samsung update plus, I read that someone found that updating the Intel GPU drivers helped.
I guess there is some vital tweak that missing somewhere, but I’ve yet to find it for the BBC iPlayer.

MemberHi Fred
Thanks for the reply. I’ve had better luck with it of late, picking up hd youtube vids of 720p with no probs- similarly vimeo. HD files I store locally also seem fine… like you mention it may be best to let movies buffer for some time before starting them up. The real problem I’m having is playback in video editing software. Windows Live Movie Maker and Avidemux are really struggling and stuttering when inputting my homemade hd video into it to add titles etc. Possibly an issue with the added strain these editing softwsares will have on the cpu perhaps?
Thanks again for the long reply – I’ll download bick buck bunny anyway – heard so much about it!
Thanks again
John
