Participantjazb08 – Welcome to the forum
Foxit Reader is an alternative pdf viewer that will allow the viewing of Adobe pdf files but it is just a smaller more compact program that consumes fewer resources.
It also integrates itself into the browser and I have found it runs well on my NC10.
Hope this helps

MemberWell, after my previous posts in this thread I’ve done a U turn and I’m going to have to eat my hat.
I dismantled an old computer and transferred the Win 7 Premium licence to my netbook so thankfully this upgrade cost me nothing.
I have to say, windows does seem to run smoother and best of all, my batterystat reports an additional hour of battery life now to about 7 hours with wifi on on light internet usage and 2/3 screen brightness . Previously it averaged 6ish at only 1/3 screen brightness. Some other users in these forums have also reported improved battery life compared to Win 7 Starter. So whatever Win 7 premium is doing, its appears to be more energy efficient. And I haven’t changed any software settings compared to my Win 7 starter.
Win 7 Premium on my N210 = thumbs up.

MemberHello all
I have a Samsung n220 plus, and thinkinging of putting windows 7 ultimate as I want to change the background and play dvds!, will this comprimise the performance of the machine? I have a box copy of windows 7 ultimate and just wanted to overwrite evrything and have a clean install, should I be wary of anything if I do this?
thanks Nimesh

Membernimesh123456789,
If you just want to play DVDs and change the background, you can do this free of charge on W7-starter. At least to try it first and see how you get on.
Background – oceanis recomended by some users of this forum.
DVD play – VLC or another free media player. If thats all you want to try for now, then the above are at least worth a shot first.
re any possible other tweaks, see this
And there are plenty of other freebies like truecrypt for encryption etc
Hope some of that helps

MemberI know this topic is related to upgrading Windows, and under circumstances that are more demanding of the Windows environment, that’s understandable. But if you just want to change your background and/or play a DVD, you could just use Linux. You should especially try Linux if you’re not entirely happy about buying a device bundled with a deliberately limited Operating System – because the more people that just buy the upgrade, the more likely the next laptop you buy will have an edition of Windows with even further limitations. Such is the wonderful world of proprietary-software-turned-desperate.
