MemberHi All
I’ve been holding out for a white W7 Sammy for a while now.
I’ve just taken the plunge and gone for a N210 from Amazon.co.uk
Hopefully with me tomorrow 🙂Being as Win7 Starter was the only option, thats what I had to go for.
But I’ve read a few things about this being too restricting a version of W7.
I’ll be using it for lots of web surfing, streaming music from Spotify, MS Office and watching movies (full screen). My question is, is it worth upgrading to Home premium or Ultimate ?
Can the N210 handle the Aero side of things that I’ve got used to on my main W7 PC.
I have a W7 Ultimate disc so would prefer to use that, but that presumably means a reinstall? Of the OS from USB , then of the drivers ?
Is there a way to do the equivalent of a Windows 7 Update Anywhere with an existing disc and activation key ?many thanks in advance
once I get upgraded I’ll report back my findings[red=amazonukwin7]Win 7 at Amazon.co.uk[/red]

MemberHi Manncubdad 🙂
I was running W7 Ultimate beta on my NC10 since it was released in 2009. Even with the beta and RC versions, I didn’t have a problem with this OS and I now run Windows 7 Professional on my NC10 – I do have 2 Gb of RAM installed, but I’m not sure how much difference that makes.
I don’t see any reason why you can’t perform an in-place upgrade to W7 Ultimate using your new product key.
Hope that helps 🙂

MemberI got home premium running on my n210, only got it so I can play dvds. So for me it was worth it.

MemberHi Manncubdad,
I would see how you get on with Starter first. There are programs to circumvent the main annoyance, the enforced desktop image.
If you do decide to upgrade then a DVD reader/writer might not be a bad investment anyway.
I have Win 7 Ultimate running on my NC10 now, Aero, Peek et al all running fine, so I doubt you’d have any problems.

MemberThanks for the replies guys.
I’m still waiting for courier to arrive but can’t wait to started.
I’m used to (and really like) the aero features so I think I’ll be
going ahead with the upgrade to home prem or ultimate.I’m assuming it’ll come full of bloatware.
Any advice on what to uninstall straight away / what to leave on /
any tweaks / tips / etc. to get most from my new Sammy are all very welcome.
Is vlc plyer the best bet for playing movie files ?Once again thanks in advance for any tips / advice.

MemberWin 7 Home Premium with 1 GB on my N110 flies along nicely. I’ll not be upgrading to 2 GB any time soon…

Hi Manncubdad 🙂Actually, the Samsung netbooks are fairly good at not installing a heap of bloatware, but there are a number of threads discussing how to set up/maximise peformance on your netbook. Check some of these threads:

Hope this helps 🙂

MemberI’ve had my N210 for about a month but hate the Win7 Starter OS. I did a full install to Windows 7 Home Premium almost immediately and everything ran fine but the display was elongated horizontally. I couldn’t find a driver to fix this at the time and have been making do with Win7SE. I really would like to have my cake and eat it too. Can anyone help? Thanks

MemberI’ve been to Samsung’s site and my netbook model isn’t listed. Plus, today when I went, it wouldn’t even look up NP-N210. It’s like this netbook was never created. It’s very weird.

I was able to find the N210 W7 drivers on the Samsung website
heres the link to the video driverI also upgraded from Starter, but using the Windows Anytime Upgrade method.
Just entered my Home Premium key and it did the upgrade.
This way I didnt have any driver issues as they were already there for W7 Starter.I have to say that the N210 flies along beautifully with Home Prem and just the 1GB Ram.
Nice to see Aero in all its glory.
Really cant see why they only put Starter on in the first place.I’m still getting to know the N210, dont have too much time right now.
But will post my thoughts as soon as i can.Heres something for starters though ..
As I expected, there WAS lots of bloatware to uninstall.
Here a before and after ..

MemberHi! I just got the n210 and wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 Premium. This is the first time I have owned a PC in a very long time (I usually stick with Macs).
Now just to clear things up, the guy at Best Buy said that this netbook (/netbooks in general) cannot run Windows 7 (non starter editions,) but everyone here has been running it fine, right?
Also, if I were to upload Windows 7 on my netbook, and something goes wrong, I can still take it back to BB with no issues, correct? (I have the extended warranty and all that) but they won’t question why the Premium edition is installed and not the Started edition, right?
Also, I found 7 Premium online to buy, do I want 32bit or 64bit?(I have no idea what those things mean). The ram is upgraded to 2 if that matters.
Thank you!
