MemberThis thing seems to get REALLY hot…uncomfortably hot.
It was so bad I had to go out and buy a lapdesk w/ built in fans. The fans are so loud and combined with the less than spectacular sound this thing already has it’s becoming a nuisance.
I went into bios to make sure power management was enabled.
I went into my power plan and changed the active plan to only use 25% cpu (on batt or charging)
Also changed the setting that had cooling as passive when on batt to active.
Speedfan now shows temp1 @ 52c, core 0 @ 43C, and core1 @ 43 C (with it just sitting there idly)
Prior to making these power adjustments it those 43C temps were in the upper 50’s or low-mid 60’s even. Even now with those temps in the lower 40’s it still gets uncomfortably warm.I am wondering if this is normal, and what if anything I can do about it?
Do all netbooks get this warm? Do normal laptops? (I never owned one…)
One thing I was thinking was undervolting the CPU but I can’t find a way to do so in bios or anything…
It is so annoying that as much as i love this thing I am debating returning it for something else that doesn’t get so hot. I bought it at bestbuy and I think they give you 15 days …it’s been 8 or 9.

MemberInterestingly, my system rating for windows experience was 2.3 (I think.) After lowering all these power settings it actually went UP to 2.4….kinda strange, heh.

ParticipantInterestingly this heat issue was raised in another thread last week. I wonder if there is a common theme here?
N210 GETTING HOTHope this helps
Edit: A quick google reveals others are having similar problems.

how hot do your nc10’s get?
[/quote1269889082]Ours run quite cool and most of the warmth on the underside is from the hard drive and wireless card.Hope this helps

MemberHere is a link that I found trying to see if it was just my N210 that was getting hot. I have found that doing as you have done is the best for the computer. They do tend to get hot, and I can’t figure out why. I think it is the way they are built. For the most part mine only gets hot after watching videos and using it for about four hours at a time. I hope this link helps, and I have read about ten reviews on this product and everyone of them says that the N210 gets hot.

ParticipantHmm for some reason Speedfan is only picking up the Core0 and Core1 temps at the moment…
Anyway for my NC10 they are both reading at around 22’C, I’m currently just browsing the internet on it and dong some light work.
After running the Prime95 stress test for a while my netbook hits at maximum around 50’C, though this is pretty much a worst case scenario. The bottom is warm, but not uncomfortably so.

Memberwow. My n210 gets 2x as hot almost….and without turning down the cpu and power options like I mentioned it was darn near 3x as hot.
This can’t be right.

Memberinteresting.
Here is mine. Doesn’t seem that bad in comparison…except the minimum cpu temp.Yet it gets so uncomfortably warm on my lap, even when using the lapdesk.
Thanks for the help btw

ParticipantSuftop – Well the comparison is interesting, being very similar temperatures, so does not explain readily where all the heat is coming from. Your hard drive is quite a bit cooler.
Are you able to determine where the heat is coming from ie what is behind any hot spot on the underside eg. CPU, HDD, wireless card etc?
Hope this helps.

MemberI noticed that too (HDD much cooler)
Anyhow, I haven’t taken it apart so I’m not sure which devices are where, but it seems to be hottest on the middle left side, like below the q,w,e, and a,s,d keys. I know the main vent is near there on the left side, and I assume the CPU is directly underneath, but I’m not sure.

ParticipantSuftop – Yes it sounds like it is the CPU but it seems as though the fan/heatsink are not dissipating enough heat away.
Just and idea – why not give Samsung Support a call and ask their opinion as to why it is running very hot and do they consider that this is normal when other netbooks in their range run appreciably cooler in operation.
Hope this helps

ParticipantJust as a quick followup it seems that I’m getting different readings from SpeedFan and CPUID Hardware Monitor. Here are my current readings, the netbook is mostly idle with a few programs open in the background and has been running for a few hours. These readings seem more inline with other peoples.

ParticipantSuftop – Just ran CPUID a few minutes ago and results below for my NC10 which has been on for approx 6 hours.
Hope this helps
