MemberAccording to the Samsung site the N140 has an N270 Atom, but Laptop mag have found a N280 in theirs.
I would be interested to know what processor is in your N140 and what region it was bought in?

MemberWin 7 tells me my N140 has a 280. I bought it in Thailand last month.

MemberThanks for that anatta – I’m definitely interested to know if both chips are used, is there a regional difference? How can buyers know what they are getting? And does it really matter…?!

MemberMy N140, bought in the UK from amazon.co.uk less than 2 weeks ago, has a 270N according to Linux. Mine is the 160GB WinXP model in case there is a difference.

MemberSamsung can only distribute Windows XP machines with certain hardware profiles in order to comply with the WinXP ULCPC licencing agreement.
This is why Win7 N140’s are found with a 250gb(?) hdd while the WinXP ones only have 160gb.
Thia may be the reason for the different processors also. I would not be surprised if the 280 is only found in the Win7 Started edition N140s

[/quote1260388238]I don’t think the N280 is outside of the restrictions. There have been a number of N280 netbooks running Windows XP in the past (ASUS EEE PC 1000HE, Samsung N120, Toshiba NB200, Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 and Acer Aspire One D150/D250 to name a few).
I also think most European N140:s (possibly excluding UK) sport the N270 and Windows 7.

MemberIt’s also the same with batteries – see this thread. Samsung sure are stirring things up with different specs in different markets. The performance difference between N270 and N280 is so negligible that it doesn’t matter. Furthermore, the difference is easy to spot for the consumer – the specs often mention the processor model, or at least its clock speed. With battery capacities, not so much. There can be quite a large difference between the runtime of a 5200mAh battery and a 5900mAh battery, and specs seldom explicitly mention capacity – heck, I had to mail Samsung three times to find this out.

MemberI have just bought an N140 in the UK – white, 250GB HDD, Win7 – and it has an N270 processor.
Also, it’s worth noting that Laptop magazine’s N140 only had a 5200mAh battery – UK N140’s have the 5900mAh one (Mine does, anyway. Which is nice.)

MemberEven in HongKong, the XP version N140 got 5200mAh while Win7 version will have 5900mAh
