MemberA little confused about BTooth.
The first, rather rambling, review appears on Amazon U.S. for the n140. If i read the review correctly, BT IS included on the 140. DagoDiva: have you seen this review? Any comments anyone?November 12, 2009 at 12:50 am #203039Rob49
MemberBoy, I hope that Amazon reviewer wasn’t typing the review on his new n140 keyboard – what a mess. PI, I went ahead and ordered a n140 – should arrive on Friday but I’m traveling that day and won’t have time to play with it until Saturday. I’m not expecting bluetooth based on DagoDiva’s earlier post, but I’ll let you know what I find.
Are you still looking at the Asus? I decided to stick with Samsung for the traditonal keyboard feel and more rugged build, though I’m sure either one would be a good choice.

MemberRob: good luck, I hope it has bluetooth, too. Please let us know soon as you can
You are right [very funny!] I, too, hope the gentleman was typing on a keyboard other than the one that came with his new n140.
The confusion continues-I am still undecided… between Asus, nc10 and n140… I see the n140 price is already coming down; maybe lower on the Thanksgiving sale?

MemberPretty Ignorant,
Got the n140 – no bluetooth to be found. It is a nice netbook, though. I’m glad I held out for the matte screen.Good luck with your decision.

MemberThat settles the blue tooth question- thanks, Rob.
I’m waiting to see if 140 adds a white color; and/or to look at the 510, shoud Samsung ever deem the american market worthy.
Though, sounds like you can’t go wrong with the n140. And a blue tooth dongle will do the trick.November 14, 2009 at 8:00 pm #203015DagoDiva
MemberPI & Rob: I agree with both of you. I love the matte screen. My monster 17″ has a super glossy screen and it was a nightmare to have in the car. I could hardly see the screen image. With my N140 it’s perfect. I can see everything brightly and clearly. I also agree that a dongle will do the trick just fine. If my n140 had BT, I would have it turned off anyway to save battery power. A dongle will do just fine. I still can’t believe Samsung shorted the US market by foregoing the BT. What’s up with that?

MemberIt’s not the first time they have done that DagoDiva, my Spanish NC10 came without BT. I am sure they have their reasons, but it makes a confusing choice for the consumer after reading the original specs on line, as most people do.

MemberDagoDiva:
Agreed.
it is most frustrating to read the specs in other markets, then after the wait to see our own availability as significantly different, if not reduced. Were Samsung not such a fine product, for this [mis]treatment alone I would be tempted to look elsewhere. As it is, I still hold out hope for at least more color availabilty, as in this white example available [with blue tooth] in the U.K. [actually, half a dozen color options are available in the U.K. for the 140; and it is not about cosmietics alone, as the white keyboard is indeed easier to read in dim lighting].

MemberRob49:
Finally made the decision:
i’m going with the Nc10 over the n140.
Here’s my reasons:
-price for either machine remains roughly the same [nc10 remains valuable because there are few of them left; the colors available; and bluetooth]
-n140 has a larger hard drive: but I try to keep data all sync onto an external hard drive- and the mobile netbook is only for mobile use; with data, some applications and reference books loaded onto an external, hard drive size is not much of an issue. In fact, this method frees one from the tether to a single machine- should that machine be stolen, lost or crash when in a foreign country, you needn’t go thru a great hassle in downloading programs/finding disks and reinstalling onto a foreign bought computer whose directions are in Chinese or some other language you cannot read.
-the n140 has “n” wireless, but who cares?
Not important. As another reviewer noted elsewhere, “n” is rarely available. More imporatant is 3G availablity, for which one will need insert a dongle- which also, in some versions, enables wireless ‘N’- and one will need that dongle whether he has the nc10 or the n140
-color: if given a choice [which the n140 in america really does not]i prefer light cheeful computer. What i do on a computer is work- thank the fates I rely on neither computers nor decks of cards for entertainment; there is indeed a world away from that 10.1″ screen [errr, 10.2″ on the nc10]- since i work on a computer, anything bright can hoelp to perk up the mood.
-as a small and meaningless protest against the marketing practice of more features to different markets for same machine:
-the nc10 comes with XP, so all the work of downgrading from Mr. Gate’s newest entry is already done for me.All in all, [other than XP] about the only really signiciant difference I find between the two machines is that the nc10 offers blue tooth and the newer n140 [on the american version] does not.
Decision made.
nc10
Thanks for the discussion.November 25, 2009 at 3:32 am #203041Rob49
MemberSounds like a good decision to me, PI. Good luck to you.
