i came close to getting the white one from the uk, but i got a good look at the keyboard and noticed that the z and y are flip flopped and i don’t like how the enter key looks. the setup looks a little weird to me but i realize that the uk uses a few different characters than the us.UPDATE: i canceled my order with jr.com and placed one on erwincomputers.com on 11/04. i just checked the tracking and it’ll be here 11/06! yay!

I hate to break this to you, but they do speak English in the UK as well. It is the German keyboard layout you are talking about, they have the QWERTZ layout. The British model has the very same QWERTY as you guys in the States, but there are some differences, like the enter key like you said.November 6, 2009 at 2:57 pm #203022pretty ignorant
MemberIsn’t there a white Sam n140 available in the UK?
The US model has a larger hard drive, different bundled apps and a paucity of color choice.
The UK model has smaller hard drive, blue tooth, and white color available- plus, the UK model is available with either O/S.
But no one in America can buy one from UK online.
I don’t know if it Samsung or MS that gives the orders, but over a month ago I tried ordering the n140 from both UK Amazon and other shops. They all said the same, they were not able to ship this machine to any address in U.S.November 6, 2009 at 3:33 pm #203017Juhani

[/quote1257521279]As far as I know there are black and white N140s in the UK, check this out. Also note that the model with Windows 7 has 250 GB hard drive just like the US model.
Here in Finland we have at least black, white, red, pink and violet N140s.

MemberJuhani, thanks.
You are right, of course UK Win7 model seems to have the bases covered with both BT and the larger HD; US Win7 model – it seems, though no definitive first hand confirmation yet – does not have BT, but has a couple apps of dubious value. For a company that produces such fine machines, their marketing appears byzantine. But then, look at the Asus 1005ha: depending on the series of digits- and color code- that follow the “ha”- the machine could be xp based, could be win7 based, could be “8.5 hr” battery, could be “10.5 hr” batter, could be matte screen [blue color, win7, 10.5] or glossy screen [black color, win7, 10.5]- and all are designated by catchy, sensible, easy to remember names, like “asus eee 1005ha pu1x- bk” as opposed to the utterly distinct “asus eee 1005ha vu1x-bk”. Makes our first acquaintance with the computer so cuddly and approachable.
[To think, most of the work we do now with our beloved 500$ machines and blue tooth peripherals, we used to do with a little 10 cent pen. But then, we were building ships to the moon. Now, our advanced engineering allows us to instantly design MacDonalds arches and communciate with smiley faces. But I digress…]

Memberyeah, thanks Juhani (i like your name by the way). having an instructor & several friends from England, and a TV all my life, i’m well aware they speak English in the UK. i mentioned a few different characters, not a different language, but thanks though 🙁 i did not know, however, that i was speaking about the German layout. that’s interesting. had i realized that then, i might have gotten my n140 from the UK a month ago instead of sitting here waiting for the fedex man to bring mine today 🙂

MemberDagoDiva, I’m anxiously awaiting the delivery of your new n140, too, so you can confirm the bluetooth question. I’m really hoping the listed specs are wrong.
If it has bluetooth, I’ll be ordering mine right away. If not, I’m looking at the Asus that Pretty Ignorant mentioned but I’ve been reading about problems with power supplies, support, etc.

MemberYes, with a TV, one is certain to remain well informed.
Looking forward to learning if your new American bought n140 comes with BT. Perhaps you could then let Samsung know,, too!
PS: Rob,
according to reviews, issues with power supply, plentiful in the XP based model, do not apply to the Win7 based model. This according to Amazon US reviews, admittedly a comparatively small sampling- though they give the NEW Asus 1005 [not the OLD Asus 1005] five stars on all counts, including a Win7 battery life of 10 hours.November 6, 2009 at 9:17 pm #203036Rob49
MemberUh-oh, PI – I just looked at the Asus 1005HA-PU17 (here) again on Amazon and now it lists the following on both the blue & black models:
Display: 10.1-inch 1024×600 LED-Backlit Widescreen LCD (Color-Shine/Glossy Screen Technology)
I may be cracking up from looking at too many netbook specs.

MemberRob:
You looked at the wrong 1005ha in blue.
Unbelievable, I know- it’s not you who is ‘cracking up’ it’s the imaginative marketing policy at Asus.
In any case, the 140 with the Matte screen is their latest version with 10.5 hr advertised battery.
It is also blue.
It is not 1005ha-pu17.
it is 1005ha-pu1x-bu.
See the link below.
Hang in there, we’ll all have to go thru this.
We are in ths same boat…
[My ol’ bic pen always worked, cost a dime, and didn’t have to study up on which model for six months prior to purchase, either- instead, i was busy working with it. Pens, we figure out how TO DO work. Computers, we figure out how to get THEM to do work. And then we do the work anyway.]November 6, 2009 at 10:17 pm #203037Rob49
MemberPI,
The link you just sent points to the Windows XP model with a glossy screen.November 6, 2009 at 10:27 pm #203026pretty ignorant
MemberSONOFA…
ROB: I AM SORRY !!!
You are right; I have to run out now, but it looks as if I am wrong.
The machine to which i sent you a link IS XP.
Du’oh !!
After all my carfeful review…
Both models with Win7 have a glossy screen.
Humble apologies, sir.
And thank you for correcting me.
Well, it looks like it is back to Samsung for me; hopefully DagoDiva will confirm shortly what to expect on that end.
Thanks.November 7, 2009 at 1:16 am #203012DagoDiva
MemberHi Folks, Guess what? I’m using my N140 to write my comment! Yay! I was so excited when it finally came, I forgot to do an unboxing video….sorry. Plus the fact that by the time I got from my bedroom to the front door, the fedex man was gone and my computer was sitting on the ground at my door! I was hot!
Anyway…..
My first impressions were “ooooohhhhh, it’s even prettier in person”. I got the burgundy one and I must say it’s a sexy netbook if netbooks could be considered sexy 😉 It’s thin and light and the burgundy color is gorgeous. The pictures don’t do it justice. I was a little sad to see that it didn’t have BT, but when I think about it, I always turned off BT on my old HP (I had it for 2 weeks….old..ha!) anyway so it’s no big deal right now. I can get a dongle for a $1 on ebay when I need one. So I plugged in the battery than plugged in the AC power and turned it on. It doesn’t have an instant web feature like the HP, but I was pleasantly surprised with the keyboard. It’s a much more natural feel than the HP. I was still getting used to it when my N140 finally arrived. There was nothing for me to get used to with this. I’m a pretty fast touch typist and a comfortable and ergonomic keyboard is an absolute must for me. My carpal tunnel won’t let me have it any other way. The anti-glare screen is nice. The HP had one as well, but it seemed to have ripples where as my N140 looks like HD. The sound is pretty decent too. You can play around with the SRS effects to get the sound you want. I really like that. It took me about 90 minutes to get through the whole setup and to get my programs and docs on it. I was able to partition my drives how I wanted to and it’s been great so far. I’ve been playing with it for about 2 – 3 hours now and my daughter keeps trying to get it away from me! It hasn’t gotten hot or even warm. That HP got hot quickly. It was going back to the store with or without my N140 coming. The lights on the front of the machine drove me nuts. They were blinding! Anyway I’m glad to be rid of that HP and I’m so happy I finally have my Sammy N140!November 7, 2009 at 1:19 am #203013DagoDiva
MemberOops! I forgot to mention that the touch pad is a multi-touch pad. I’m still getting used to that but it’s really cool. I was hoping it would at least have that if it didn’t have BT.
So I hope my comments were helpful. If there are any questions you think I can answer, please don’t hesitate to ask!

MemberCongratulations, DD, on your new n140. Too bad about the missing Bluetooth, but you sound happy with your purchase and that is all that matters. Have fun!

asus win7 matte display 250hd BlueTooth
ok, here’s the Asus MATTE screen, with blue tooth and Win7.
this is why it was so hard to find: they added yet anther array of numbers after the 1005hs, added more colors and discontinued the matte on the prior numbered modifiers [hence the recent confusion]. Alll this is new within last couple days. Now, matte screened asus are distinguished by “MU” designation..
In any case, to cut thru the confusion:
here it is in white:

DagoDiva:thanks for the comments and I hope you get a lot of work out of your new machine. -
