Hi – just got my N140 in UK and generally pretty happy, except that compared to my XP PC, I noticed that playback on sites using software like flv/sites like Youtube, the video playback is a bit shuddery (video only, audio seems fine). It’s not terrible (not really buffering) but would appreciate any ideas how to make video run a bit more smoothly. Or is this just the nature of netbooks?
Thanks very much
I think the default battery setting when you first use the N140 only allows 50% max cpu (to give longer battery life).
You could try FN +F8 to make it quicker or try going to the battery icon bottom right and changing the “power plan”, personally I have mine set to balanced, and you tube and skype work very well on battery power.
Im sure others with more knowledge will also give you some advice soon.

This is the screen zebedee is referring to above.
Another improvement can be made by changing the section
“When playing video On Battery: to “Optimize video quality”
Hope this helps
Wow, the 50% thing is a bit sneaky! I guess that’s how they get the 10 hours.
Thanks VERY much – great piece of advice

The irony is that by setting it to 100% you may actually increase battery life. Or at-least there should be very little difference.
This is due to the race to low power mode, where it can be more energy efficient for the processor to ramp up to full for a very short time so as to complete the task quickly and then go back to a low power mode, versus running for longer at 50% to get a task done then going back to the low power mode later.
I’ve noticed that for me youtube playback is noticably better in google chrome browser then it is in firefox or IE. If you are not already using chrome you could try it out.
