Hi,
My N140 is due to come tomorrow (from Amazon), and this is the first netbook I have owned. As it comes with Windows XP are there any benefits in changing to Windows 7, and if so how would I upgrade to this (?cost also) – I understand it is best to change from XP to Windows 7 before putting my ‘stuff’ on
Also would anyone be able to recommend a usb dvd player/writer, and wether it is advisable to change the 1GB memory to 2, or if there are any other ‘invaluable accessories’ anyone would recommend…my two kids are particulary wanting to watch dvds on holiday and in the car.
Thank you so much for your advise
You can’t upgrade to W7 until it’s released on 22 October, so enjoy your netbook with XP at the moment. As for upgrading to W7, there are many threads in this forum (in the Windows 7 section) on the subject which makes interesting reading.
If you’re intending to play lots of DVDs – it makes sense to upgrade to 2 GB RAM.
Thanks Jayne,
Apologies I am new to the forum this week and didn’t realise there was a windows 7 section.
There are many good dvd/cd drives around, one of the more reasonable priced ones is the CNM external slimline drive. It isn’t much to look at, but its a cd/dvd drive which will read and write many kinds of cd and dvd disks and I believe you can get it for under £40 now. If you are a person who likes their brands and garantees, you could go for LiteOn or LG, but these drives will be more expensive. Also, its well worth getting the netbook meory upgraded; Not only will you be able to watch DVD’s smoothly because of the integrated graphics being a shared memory solution, but you’ll also notice improved performance and stability especially when multiple tasks are unning.
