Hello,
I’m considering buying a N140 in the near future, but I’m not sure which version I should get. The German model has a better keyboard layout (it is very close to Finnish layout which I use), but the specs of the German version seem to be inferior when compared to the UK model. IIRC it was the same situation with the NC10 as well.
At least the battery seems to be a 5200 mAh in German model, and 5900 mAh in the UK model. Is there any other differences you know about? It’s very challenging to find reliable information about the specifications. I would also appreciate info about the UK model’s charger, I’m wondering if I can change the power cord to a model with Finnish plug (we have the same standard with the Germans). Hopefully the charger isn’t a “mobile phone” model without a detachable power cord.
So far I haven’t found any info about how GNU/Linux is working on the N140, if you have found some reports about this I would greatly appreciate if you would share the links.
I think I’m not going to wait for the Windows 7 update for this model as the price probably goes up and I can get Windows 7 for free from MSDN-AA if I want to use it (probably not).
Here’s a link to the price comparison I use: geizhals.at / N140
The charger on my UK one has a removable power cord, of the cloverleaf/mickey mouse variety and will take 100-240 volts.
Thanks for the info, I think I’m going to get the UK model. It also has the Realtek WLAN chipset which should work in Linux, the DE version seems to have Atheros chipset.
Having a bit of trouble with the Realtek WLAN drivers ATM. It does not support WPA, but is ok with WEP and No security on the router. All works in Win XP as supplied so dunno what’s the problem. Just hoping for the Windows 7 driver release/update soon. Also works with the Realtek LAN drivers + ethernet cable.
There are some Realtek drivers at station-drivers.com
Hope this helps
