MemberI live in Luxembourg and asked Amazon the cost of shipping a N140.
This is their reply, which I find quite confusing.
Anyone speak gobble de gook??
Dear gfplux
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your Query.
I’m pleased to hear that you are interested in purchasing “Samsung N140 Netbook”.Amazon.co.uk can dispatch Baby, Beauty, Clothing, DIY & Tools, Electronics, Health (excluding medicine), Home & Garden, Jewellery, Kitchen, Office Products, Shoes, Sports and Watches items to the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Generally, we charge a fixed rate for each delivery, with an additional smaller charge for each item in that delivery. Here’s the equation we use to calculate the total delivery cost:
(Highest applicable per delivery rate)
+
(weight x per kg rate) = Total delivery cost3.99 + 0.49*2.7
Items : £264.32
Postage & Packing : £5.32
Total before VAT : £269.64
VAT : £40.45
Order Total : £310.09If you buy a combination of items, whichever item in your order has the highest per delivery rate will determine the per delivery rate we charge; per item charges will be applied according to the products you ordered.
Do you think this makes sence as it does not seam a lot to ship by courier from UK to Luxembourg and is the VAT correctThanks

gfplux – I don’t speak fluent gobble de gook, but here’s my take on it 🙂If I’m reading it right the shipping weight seems low (0.49Kg)
Assuming the real weight is say 2Kg then the postage & packing cost would be
3.99 + 2*2.7 = 9.39 which sounds more realistic. But if they have transposed the weight x per kg rate in error in their email it could be
3.99 + 0.49*2.7Kg = 5.32 as they stated. If it turns out they have under priced the S&H the difference is only 9.39 – 5.32 = 4.07 which is hardly worth worrying about in the grand scheme of things.
However you have their email which could be construed as a quotation to fall back on and you could hold them to it.
I don’t know the VAT rate applicable for Luxembourg as they are quoting UK 15% so the final invoiced VAT amount may be different.
As I said I’m not totally fluent in gobble de gook but I hope this makes it a bit clearer, if that’s possible 😀
Hope this helps
