Memberhi guys
new to the forum and have had n130 for a few days. great little machines but im having problems connecting to web. my router is fine, and wireless shows instant connection after boot, but this little mite seems to delay connection to net for about 5 minutes after boot or lid closure . or quite often longer and i have to go through xp connection diagnostic in order to get connected. tried updating drivers, rolled factory reset procedure. when i do get connected its fine with no drop etc, is this normal with these wee sammys ?
any help appreciated

ParticipantThis shouldn’t be normal on any computer.
Have you tried rebooting your router?
It’s an easy first step and it seems to help some people.December 26, 2009 at 9:23 pm #208198stewarty
Memberthanks for the reply, have done this many times , even been into router settings but no anomalies i can see.

ParticipantHave you checked to see if your netbook has been assigned a valid IP address when you can’t get access to the internet?
You could check that by going to:
Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig /all
Then see what IPv4 address has been given to the wireless LAN adapter.December 26, 2009 at 11:34 pm #208196jeepers01
Participantstewarty – Welcome to the forum
What you are experiencing is not normal behaviour to be expected and the wifi should connect within a few seconds.Do you have any other wireless pc’s in the house to check if they are working correctly with the router? or any other devices that may have conflicting IP addresses?
Try checking what wireless driver you have installed at the moment. This driver has been reported recently to be reliable in the N130 and it maybe worth ugrading to it if yours is a different version.
Realtek RTL8192E Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
Driver version 1676.10.911.2009
Driver date 11/09/2009However the problem you describe seems to indicated that the DHCP server in the router is providing the IP address slowly and / or intermittently.
Check in the router settings that the DHCP server is On.
Check that the router is issuing DHCP addresses similar to this example obtained from ipconfig /all (start > run > cmd)
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.21(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 26 December 2009 18:25:01
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 26 December 2009 23:04:37
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1As a suggestion try fixing the IP address on the sammy to avoid using the DHCP server as if this resolves the problem then the issue is confirmed as being in the router. (if so then a firmware upgrade may solve it)
To fix IP address (to make it static) see example below
Choose an IP address below the router DHCP starting address. ie in this case tell the DHCP server to start issuing addresses above 192.168.0.21. Also making sure that other devices on the network use different addresses. The Default Gateway is your router IP address
Depending on your router manufacturer your Gateway address may differ slightly eg. 192.168.1.1I use fixed DNS Server addresses from http://www.OpenDNS.org because they are very fast
If you choose to use them it is best to change them in the router as well to get the full advantage of the surfing speed increase I have found I get over my ISP’s rather slow DNS servers. It really does make a difference to the surfing experience, for me.
I get between 20 and 30ms pings whereas from other ISP’s the pings can be up to twice as long.Hope this helps and let us know how you get on

Memberhi folks, problem now solved , thank you so much for your help, greatly appreciated. tried resetting ip/dns settings and but to no avail. got round it by enabling wireless g instead of n and enable wpa only, voila works fine, instant access, but i’ll also have a go at reinstalling new drivers soon.
thanks again and i look forward to frequenting the forums

Participantstewarty – Glad it’s working now and thanks for reporting back. I remember that setting G mode in lieu of N has solved some problems for other users but WPA2 encryption as been a problem with these Realtek cards but trying the driver mentioned above may help with that.
Also try changing the algorithm from TKIP to AES or vice versa when using WPA2Let us know how you get on
