MemberHello, great forum – was surprised to find a site dedicated to this laptop or rather netbook.
Glad I did.First off, I did check the FAQ, but it seemed dedicated to the NC10 and I am not sure
how much difference there is between the N130 and it.Next, It’s not my machine and so I don’t want to spend hours and hours trying to fix
something for a mate, only to find out that I have wasted his time and mine.So…. maybe you could help me out a bit…
Bit of background:
My mate Ken, who shall remain nameless 😉 for being such a d**k, that he threw the
machine against the wall in a frustrated moment over not being to put in his final
assignment at the OU. He is from Glasgow, so I suppose the machine got off lightly
(humour 😉 Anyway, all crappy jokes aside. –
I am amazed this machine is still working perfectly – he brought it up to me and
it powered up my old vga monitor. How, I don’t know – the machine must be built
like a tank – yeah – the screen is in pieces (not physically – the crystals) but still….
Everything else inside is working flawlessly, despite being bounced off a wall
at high speed…So, I have sourced a replacement for the 60 or 70 bucks (quid) it costs.
I am in the UK.
How easy is it to replace the screen on this little beauty?
By my little old self?I build systems sometimes, focused more on software, but I do know about
lethal charges from inverters and such, long after the machine is powered down.
I will obviously do my research again, but just to save a bit of time, am I fighting
a losing battle here? Can anyone give me any tips or pointers to some pertinent
information?I really appreciate your time!
Oh and while I’m being a cheeky SOB, I didn’t want to post another question
and clutter up your forum – Can I please ask where he can get the OS for his
netbook so I can restore it for him, once I hopefully get the screen put back in.
It is a fully legit and legally licensed machine with receipts so I have no qualms
about calling Samsung myself on his behalf, still I am wondering how the OS
gets installed on a machine that does not have a CD/DVD drive ( I have a spare
usb/firewire one)….and other drives….Sorry for such a long post.
And doubly sorry if my dumb question(s) were answered elsewhere before.
I have spent about six or seven hours so far, just to get this far, and like I said,
It is for a friend so I want to help him out to rebuild his machine for nothing for him.
He will pay for parts, shipping etc…I understand if your altruism does not extend as far, but hey, I thought I’d give it a go.
Cheers, for listening.

Sorry, I don’t know if I am allowed to post this link to this review here, but
this snippet made me laugh so hard, I had to try. My mate Ken lives
in a VW Camper van at the moment btw, so maybe the walls aren’t so
hard ;-Ocheers again for your time.

MemberHi Mark,
There are threads here about screen replacement, that you could do a search for, it doesn’t seem that hard.
As Ken has a N130 and his screen needs replacing then it might be worth spending a little more after a look at this thread.
And for OS re-installation have a look at this one.

MemberThe OP made me laugh! Good luck with the replacement, if you go ahead with it and have the opportunity to document the upgrade with some photos it would be a great post for the main site blog.
Cheers.
