MemberA family friend has bought me an N130 off of eBay. It’s running on XP and everything is fine, barring the fact that it flat out refuses to stay connected to the wireless. It detects my wireless strongly, it just refuses to stay connected. I have a Toshiba laptop that is fine and has no connection problems.
I have tried to roll back to factory settings, I have tried to download new drivers through my Toshiba onto a memory stick and over to the N130, and I have also had a friend look at it, who’s more computer savvy, and he can’t figure it out.
Please help.

Enable wireless G mode in liew of N ie. set it to B/G mode only in the device settings accessed via Device Manager.

Sorry it’s taken so long for me to reply. Unfortunately that didn’t help, and it still keeps cutting out. I think I’m just going to replace the card (after finding that buying a cheap wireless dongle doesn’t pick up my wireless on either my laptop or my netbook, but picks up everybody else’s). My Toshiba laptop connects with no problems, on it’s own wireless card. Stupid me thought I’d be clever and remembered that I have a dead Acer laptop with a good card…shame the card is twice the size that I need. I’ll get a new one. Thank you so much for your help.

MemberHave you tried resetting the Wireless AP/router to factory defaults and just changing the SSID but not putting any security?
It sounds like the problem may possibly be on the router side as you said the USB wireless dongle can pick up other wireless AP’s but not your own. Could be security, could be mac address access list, could be a single IP address on the dhcp server, could be WEP open vs shared mode. The AP can have just as many problems as the wireless client side. jmho. good wishes.

MemberPresumably all of the TCP/IP properties on the WiFi card device settings on the N130 are set to ‘auto’.
I use static IPs, and when I went on holiday, it took me an hour of berating the hotel’s wireless network before I remembered this!

No problem about the time to respond, no rush here 🙂
Select a wireless channel farthest away from your neighbours strong channels to avoid interference. Check for them with inSSIDer it’s free. This probably explains why the card and the dongle are having problems.
As already suggested remove encryption temporarily to see if connections occur and then re-set the encryption after.
If you are running without an SSID then choose one as some cards do not function well if it is invisible on the wireless network.Hope this helps
