MemberHi, I own the N130 notebook and just put in a new hard drive. After I clipped the case
in, I noticed my power switch is not latching to anything. Did I break a piece off the on/off
switch? I can no longer turn the power on and off. Can anyone help ?February 9, 2010 at 8:35 am #210496TCMuffin
MemberWelcome to the forum, Pat 🙂
Sorry to hear of your problems 🙁
Would it be possible for you to post some images of your N130’s switch assembly 😕

MemberThank you for the quick come back. As soon as I can borrow a camara, I’ll post the pics. In the meantime, I see from a previous post that the motherboard has tiny box with a piece of plastic that fits into the case switch. The previous poster said the plastic broke as the case came off and he returned it under warrenty. But the warrenty apparently excludes case removal?? I was hoping someone might have a work around? ‘K, off to find a camara. Thanx again ~Pat

ParticipantPat – Welcome to the forum
I’ve not seen the switch first hand but is it a case of engaging the switch arm tongue with the switch on the motherboard. In other words it just may not be aligned correctly?
Hope this helps

MemberThanx for the reply. In my case the ‘switch arm tonge’ has broken off. So, I guess that leaves me with sending the unit to Samsung or my by-passing or jury rigging (tricky soldering) the switch somehow. My guess is returning this to Samsung is an expesive proposition. Bummer, ’cause the unit is only around 60 days old… : -( Thanx anyways guys ~Pat

ParticipantPat – Don’t suppose it is possible to fix with a bit of glue?

MemberThe same thing has happened to my N130. The netbook is only 4 months old. 🙁 I’m not expecting a Toughbook, but this switch seems extraordinarily easy to break.
Pat, did you send your netbook away for repairs? If so, how did it go? If not, what did you do to fix the switch?

MemberHi cybrgrl – Yup, that switch seems pretty flimsy.
In a previous post I found someone putting in
a solid state drive broke off the little tounge
on the case switch that activates the on/off
gizmo on the motherboard. They fixed his under
warrenty. So I (just like him) sent the unit
(N130) back to somewhere in Texas for warrenty.
In 3 days it was on its way back to me.
At the moment it’s in transit. Should get it
tommorrow. They said they replaced the whole
motherboard and tested it. So Just get an RMA and
there should be no problem. P.S. If you opened the
case, don’t mention it ’cause I believe that voids
the warrenty. Sending it back seemed like the best
thing to do to me but I got back a few replies how
to fix it and I’m sure that could’ve been done.
But Samsung was good to me and I’m happy with them.
If you have anymore questions, let me know. Email
if you want, it might be quicker:

MemberOK OK now I have gone and done the same thing and broken the switch. Does anyone know how I can repair this problem and not have to send it back to Samsung as its out of warranty.

Memberbalood;
Did you get this fixed? It’s been a while and I got this resolved by sending it in on warrenty. But I did gather a lot of info on this before I sent it in. Did the switch break from removing the MOBO from the case? ~~PatSeptember 16, 2010 at 6:21 pm #210512satismo
Membercalled samsung; a rep had the schematic and found part# 3408-001150, and transferred me to where i could order it. well, that guy never heard of it. wtf —

MemberSo I have had a similar issue to this, with the power switch not working.
I took my N130 apart to replace the HDD and put it back together only to find that the power switch doesn’t spring back into place. I take it apart again and it is almost as if a part is missing, but there is nothing to be seen on the floor, my desk or anything rattling around inside.
So I figure I can just order a part to replace it, I call Samsung and they give me two companies names: Digicare and EET Nordic.
I call DigiCare, explain what part I need and they investigate and come to the conclusion that I could only fix it by installing a new motherbaord…WTF!! EET Nordic havent got back to me yet.
So what I need a bit of help with is to see the inside of a working N130 to see what is missing and how it is attached or whoever before me who ordered the switch: what part was it? Literally just the plastic?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MemberHi
I have the same problem as others in that I took the case off me wife’s Samsun N130 to replace the screen (tricky hinges). Unfortunately the power switch doesn’t spring back or activate the laptop. I googled the part number Samsung sent to satismo and found it on a French site:
http://eng.estock.fr/basketadd.php?p…340edcaee235fc
It is order only but before I do order it can you tell me whether you have had any luck with this and whether samsung have confirmed it is the only part needed? There seems to be the suggestion that it requires the installation of a new motherboard to fix. If so any ideas where I can get one of these at reasonable cost?
Cheers in advance for any help you can provide.
