MemberHi to All, AM new to this Forum as I recently got my N130, I am enjoying it a great deal the only worry is the battery life! When I got it, it gave me about 8 hours of use between charging,it is now suddenly down to around 3 to 4, I use it to display photo’s I have taken, So I can pencil them? What is the Normal battery life? The operating program is Windows7 Premiun Home. Thanks

MemberVery odd that this happened all of the sudden. How old is your netbook?
Did you use the battery a lot?
If so, did you check the wear level on the battery? Use the program like Everest Ultimate to check the wear level.
Using the battery a lot will die much quicker, so you have to buy another battery if that’s the case here.

MemberThanks, the Netbook is about 2 Months old…..
Well we were told to use the battery more than the power supply or it would damage the battery, so have been using the battery lots,
What is the better way, power supply or BatteryWhere can I get this program to check the battery wear.

MemberAh I see. Well that’s opposite for me. Whenever I can, I use the power supply. For me, it will have better battery health.
You can download Everest Ultimate here.
http://www.lavalys.com:8081/everestultimate530.zip
It has a 30 days trial.
Once you unzip it, open “everest”, click OK.
Expand “Computer” and go to Power Management. Look for Wear Level to see the percentage.

ParticipantLeaf – Welcome to the forum
If your N130 was brand new when you got it recently then the battery should not fail in that short time IMHO.
I would contact Samsung Support and hopefully they will send you a replacement battery as another forum member found when their battery failed prematurely.
Another option to check the battery wear is BatteryBar which is free and it’s a very useful monitoring program as well.
Hope this helps

MemberI have access to power most of the times. But what i do is give the battery a full charge overnight and use it for the day on battery eventhough i have power supply.
Is it better to do like this? or use power whenever i have?

Memberkarthikdoc,
Most batteries can be fully recharged for a somewhat specific number of times or cycles. With some batteries a cycle or recharge may occur even if the battery is partially recharged. Basically, you want to “save” or use as few charge/recharge cycles as possible to get the longest long term use out of a battery.I usually recharge my Samsung NC10 battery when it gets down to 15%-20% of capacity. After recharging, I will remove the battery from the netbook if I am able to use ac/mains power. The heat from a netbook/laptop that is plugged in to ac/mains can shorten battery life. I usually keep the removed battery in a cool spot (yes. even a refrigerator) until it’s needed for travel. I hope this answers some of your questions. The six cell battery that came with my NC10 is close to a year and a half old and has lost only 11% capacity. I really use it “on the road” a lot.

Memberyeah it’s nice to keep the battery totally off.. but wen we suddenly wanna move abt u need the battery. i’m planning to use the SAMSUNG EXTEND BATTERY LIFE. which charges only upto 80% of the battery life preventing overcharging.

MemberI also use mine with the mains attached and have set it in the BIOS that it only charges to 80%.

Membersetting the BIOS to charge the battery to 80% is fine, but, there is still the potential problem of the heat generated while the netbook is plugged into ac/mains impacting the battery.
The short version: heat is bad for batteries.

Memberok sir. got your point. 🙂 my other question how much does a new battery cost? and is there more powerfull batteries for the N140?
March 29, 2010 at 6:08 pm #212018dockehr
Memberin another post, Jeepers01, mentioned that some of us have ordered 9 cell batteries from DealExtreme. The price was about $56-$59 USD. I received mine a year ago and have had no issues with it. My oldest son, likewise, got his 9 cell about a year ago and no issues. The 9 cell is a little thicker than a 6-cell, but the elevation of the rear of the netbook actually can aid one’s typing.

Membersomwhere i read something more or less like this
Heat is good for a battery when in use, since the chemical reactions that generate electricity inside the battery work best around a certain temp (which tends to be on the hotter side) and will produce the current flow more efficiently
On the other hand, if you are NOT using the battery, its best to keep it on cold storage (refrigerator even?) since the lower temp will reduce the performance of the chemical reaction thus preventing the battery from discharging itself
makes sense?
