MemberAfter all the little glitches with my netbook but mostly the wi-fi problem and the fact that i have read on the forums they problems with wi-fi seem to persist in some cases- I have decided to return to netbook.
I have spoken to them on the phone and they told me they would charge me £30 , if they don’t find a fault. Now, i am worried that they will get the wireless working on a particular router and claim that everything is ok!!
What shall i do? It didn’t work on my router yet i could connect two other laptops to it without problems.

ParticipantUnfortunately if it is the problem with the Atheros WiFi card being incompatible with some routers, then there is a good chance that when they test it they will have a compatible router and it will work correctly.
What router do you own (manufacturer and model)?

MemberIf you have only recently bought it you should be able to return it just because you want to. My understanding is 7 days.
These links might help?

MemberThanks for the links. It looks like i will have to fight a little. The 7 days mentions completely unused in original packaging.
My modem is D-Link Model DI-524 wireless router.

Before you give up on the wireless have a look at this thread Whats your Router and does it play nice
In particular look for BrunoIT’s postingsOn the D-Link website there alternative firmware’s to maybe try and also there is a DI-524 Click and Connect Utility download – maybe worth a try
Hope this helps you
Edit
If you are trying to connect using WPA this may help
Anyone get Dlinks DI-524 WPA-PSK function to work?
Have you tried connecting with WEP or even open to see if it works?June 17, 2009 at 2:51 am #194171OTACORB
MemberYeah, I’d be willing to put some money on this being a router issue. I’ve connected my N120 to probably 12 or 14 different wireless routers and/or WAP’s and I’ve never had a connection problem. So, I have to disagree that this is a general problem.

MemberBut if the router works fine with other laptops why should you have to mess with it to work on the N120?
Surely you buy a new machine you expect it to qwork and nor have to buy a new router?
Or am i being naive?June 17, 2009 at 9:51 pm #194170jeepers01

Think of that statement the other way around – Surely you buy a new router you expect it to work and not buy a new machine?I know it’s infuriating, but compatibility is a big word, and if it works with other laptops I doubt they have an Atheros AR500 7EG wireless card (might be worth checking though)
Why not vent your displeasure in an email to Samsung and see what they will do about it. They probably don’t read these posts so customer feedback is what they need. I remember reading the other day that they have sold a million NC10’s so they will care about customer satisfaction as it’s an important aspect to their branding
If it were my machine I would want to keep it and not settle for another manufacturers notebook just because of an albeit annoying wireless problem and further because the Samsungs are the best notebooks on the market at the moment IMHO
Don’t get me wrong I sympathise with your predicament but I would at least try the suggestions that forum members have made here in parallel with pursuing the Samsung customer support route. I would expect them to offer you, as a bare minimum, free technical support to resolve the issue, and perhaps more.
Good luck and keep us posted as to how you get on

[/quote1245291924]You would think! However, I know at our main office where we have wireless and several of my staff were assigned new notebooks. We had some folks that could connect and others that could not and what is even more strange is that all had the same specs because the machines were exactly the same. We kept thinking we had a bad batch of wireless cards, but when these guys would go out in the field they connected with other routers and WAPS just fine.
For the heck of it, my IT guy went and purchased us a new router. I can tell you that everyone connects now and we’ve never had the problem since. What exactly it was no one knows. By the way we did try resetting that old router and nothing fixed it. It was only after installing a new one that everyone was able to connect with no issues. This is what makes me think it is your router. Strange things happen!!

MemberThanks for your thoughts.. It has got me thinking. They did pick up the laptop and i am waiting to hear from returns to see what happens. I suspect i will have the option of having the laptop back or dropping £30..( whats the cost of a new router?).
My concern is that i ahve a router and computers at home that all work fine and potentially i could but a new router which might or might not work with the N120?
Moreover, when i take the N120 to different places ( like my parents house) i don’t want the same problem there too? After all my toshiba satellite connects everywhere i have been. It can’t be too much to ask from a new machine these days?
The wireless aspect is the most important to me from a netbook.I need it to be stable.
Granted in many other ways the netbook looks perfect ( battery life) but i would rather wait until they have resolved thsi wireless issue and but the next model up.June 18, 2009 at 9:29 am #194168Alfihar
ParticipantThe other possible option is to replace the wireless card in the N120, which may be cheaper and you wouldn’t have to mess around with any of your other machines. The downside is you probably void the warranty.

MemberWhy did you not test it out at other locations via other routers or WAPS? That would have been the logical thing to do. This is how we knew it had to be our router, because it worked everywhere else. Doesn’t sound like you tried it anywhere else. If you had and it connected or didn’t connect you would have know that it was bad or your router.

MemberHello
I agree with bash2357. These are netbooks. I would expect their wifi to be very good. The idea is that folks will carry this unit around. I think they need to find a robust wifi card and stop blaming everyones routers.Gary

[/quote1246258951]Well the fact is that most of us have no apparent problems, I’ve connected mine to at least a dozen or so routers and or WAP’s with no connectivity issues whatsoever. So, why would mine work so well and this one not work so well. If you only try it on a single router the only way to know if it is that router vs the card itself is to try it on other routers or WAP’s. If you connect fine everywhere else, then you have your answer. If you have the same issue everywhere then you have your answer again except now you know it is your wifi card without a doubt.
I don’t think folks are blaming routers as an excuse, but there are some problematic routers out there and my experience has proven that.
I do agree these are netbooks and they should have good wifi cards and thus far I have nothing to complain about!
