MemberSoon after turning on the N120 I realised that circles look oval, squares look rectangle and in general everything looks sligtly squashed on the screen. I’ve measured it on a square drawn in Paint holding shift down and in fact the vertical side is 4% shorter than the horizontal.
To me this is a problem and arranged return but now I have to cough up courier cost and 10% restocking fee…

MemberIf your notebook has a genuine fault you should not have to pay anything. Tell the vendor you want a refund ( or exchange) .But I am not sure if
maybe you are just a troll 🙂May 19, 2009 at 1:03 pm #1919899a6or
MemberStrictly speaking this is not a “fault” but bad design which the user will not know about until looking at the screen. All N120 netbooks are like this.

MemberSorry, but I have to disagree, I’ve been using this computer now for 3 weeks at least maybe longer and I have no such issues.
So, I have to call BS!

MemberOTACORB,
You sound very confident. Draw a 400 by 400 pixel square in Paint, measure the sides with a ruler and you will see what I mean.

ParticipantOut of interest as it supposedly has an 1024×600 pixel screen could you measure the physical size of the screen itself, both the horizontal and vertical.
For example my NC10 has a width of around 8.75″ and a height of 5.125″.
So 1024 / 8.75 = ~117 and 600 / 5.125 = ~117 so the pixels are square.
This is also the DPI of the screen.May 19, 2009 at 10:02 pm #1919919a6or
MemberSorry, my N120 is packed in its box to be returned but see a photo showing the NC10 and N120 side by side to compare screen aspect ratios.

[/quote1242770747]Done and Done, my ruler shows a perfect square!
The NC10 is 10.2″ display the N120 is 10.1″ display! I have compared them and that is really all I see is the difference in size, which is slight!

[/quote1242771325]OK, I’ve unwrapped it just for this…
The screen of my N120 is 8.75″ by 4.9375″ so the DPI is a non-square ~117×121.5. For those in metric the screen is 223 mm by 125 mm.
If OTACORB’s 400×400 square is really a square then that N120 has a different screen.
OTACORB, your turn.

MemberOkay, I did the pixel test again now that I am home with a real ruler to use and it appears that it is indeed slightly off square.
I do get the same measurements you do in terms of the display size, so it would seem you are correct. However, to be honest to the naked eye for me, squares still look square and circles look like circles, so I honest don’t see this as an issue for me. I asked a few family members to look and none of them could see that anything was actually slightly off one way or the other. It is just ever so slight, but I can see how it would bother some folks, for what I use this thing for, I honestly could care less.
I am personally totally satisfied with this little netbook, it would seem this is related to the wide bezel. All the other advantages outweigh this issue for me.

MemberIt is only natural that existing N120 owners will rationalise and play down the importance of the display issue and some may genuinely be happy with the N120 in spite of its slightly squashed screen. Samsung for some reason are using a non-standard aspect-ratio in the N120 but this will not be seen as a fault by a supplier who will charge for re-stocking if this bothers a customer after purchase. My intention was to highlight this problem to those who are shopping around trying to find their ideal netbook.
Anybody can make a mistake, measure incorrectly, not see something and that is fine but the premature trolling and BS-ing was not necessary.

MemberWell I have no reason whatsoever to rationalize or justify the fact that I like this computer and I am simply not bother by it. You seem to have an issue with the fact that I don’t feel like you do. But that is about you!
Number one I didn’t say you were a troll, I basically said I had to call BS because to my naked eye and initial measurement didn’t see it. I still don’t see it with my naked eye. I then came back and confirmed your findings. If that isn’t good enough for you once again that is about you.
Not everyone is nit picky or bothered as you seem to be and I am pretty sure folks that are bother like you will appreciate your information. What do you want an award?

MemberOK . I apologise for suggesting you might be a Troll.
