MemberI am seriously considering purchasing the n120 after scouring the net for all the other brands out there. I will be using this netbook as a means of communication. I have a rare form of muscular dystrophy which has left me without a voice. I have a text-to-speech software that allows me to type whatever I want to say, hit the Enter key, and a voice will say it. It’s wonderful! I’ve designed my own special voice so I don’t sound robotic at all. It’s very natural sounding. Presently, I’m using a Fujitsu Lifebook that I bought about 5 years ago. It was the smallest notebook out there and very similar to the Asus 1000he. I think Fujitsu was way ahead of its time!
My questions about the Sammy concerns the speakers. This feature is what got me very excited about this netbook and my needs!
Are the speakers really what they claim them to be? With my Fujitsu I’m using an external amplifier that plugs into the USB port which really boosts the speakers and allows me to be heard very clearly and loud. I’m hoping to use the Sammy without the amp to help keep down the bulk of the amp. .I’ll also be using the Sammy to surf the net and keep up with email. Is the shiny screen really that harsh on the eyes?
Also, is there any buzz out there that the price will be going down in the near future? I’m just wondering as many of the netbooks out there would have a very high price tag when they’re first released and gradually, the price would be more resonable.
One last question, which is really trivial but I want to ask anyway. Ha!
Will they be coming out with any other colors other than the all black or all white? I just thought it’d be nice to have a little color in my life! Thanks in advance for any input. I really do appreciate it.

MemberHi Susan, always feel free to ask any questions however basic! The NC10 did have pink and blue versions so other colours are not an impossibility. However history has shown that there can be long waits involved even after announcement so don’t expect anything to be available soon!
Samsung Netbook prices have been very constant, in fact they seen to go up more often than down unfortunately. My gut feel was to see a reduction in the NC10 as the N110 becomes more widely available but there has been no sign of such movement.
Speakers… I don’t own an N120 so it will be great to hear some opinions. As far as I know the speakers in the N120 were a step up from the NC10 but I seem to remember someone posting about them not being too loud. The NC10 speakers seemed to be very quiet by default but there were a few tricks to improve that. Others have even replaced their speakers but that’s not one for beginners.
([Wiki]How To:Replace Speakers on the Samsung NC10[/Wiki]).Hopefully some N120 owners can respond, it would be great to hear from anyone who has owned multiple netbooks/laptops who can provide a comparison.

MemberI had a great NC10 untill the begining of may, and since yesterday I’m the owner of a beautifull N120… I can tell you that the speakers are really so much better on the N120… They are loud enough…

Memberif it’s any help as a guide, i’ve been listening to audio books on mine while cooking, washing up etc, and have had to turn it down while on the phone in the same room
it’s by no means deafening, but probably good enough for normal conversations, not sure how you’d fare in a busy room though.
all i have to compare it too are previous notebook size machines – and i’d put it almost there, but not quite.
like Sammynetbook says – there is plenty of scope for fiddling with it. Some have reported them as too quiet out of the box – but mine seemed fine.

MemberWell I’ve had the Asus 1000HE, Acer Aspire One, HP Mini 2140 and a Samsung N10SE and I can tell you hands down the volume it not only louder, but much more full and NO you don’t have to push the equalizer to full blast or change any settings, though there are plenty of them to change if you should desire too. I’ve listen to audiobooks, technical podcast and of course viewed a few videos here and there and I am totally satisfied with the sound. Now if you are expecting because it has a subwoofer it is going to bump, then that isn’t the case at all, but it will sound more full than just 2 small speakers on the bottom on the unit.

Memberif you consider n120 for great speaker. you will be disappointed
if you consider n120 as a great netbook that has a decent speakers. you will be smiling..June 2, 2009 at 6:54 am #193049Rich99
MemberSusan, The speakers are an upgrade over most or all other current netbooks. And there’s lots of tweaking optons to get them to your likeing but… don’t expect a home theater lol. imo they’re a little fuller and less tinny than any other netbook/notebook i’ve heard to date…

MemberBasically with the N120 speakers you’re getting quality over quantity – i.e. they sound better than any other Netbook, but they won’t be quite as loud, but they not quiet. Then again, loudness equates to more power use so maybe it’s a blessing.
Also, the so called “sub-woofer” isn’t for bass, but to improve the mid-range. No idea what such a speaker would be called.

MemberI bought mine from http://www.buydig.com for $399 this past sunday night, and after splurging for the faster shipping for all of $2.89, it came on Tuesday. Pretty damn good service, and an excellent netbook as well…
