Memberassuming the 110 is the same as the nc10, then she should just be able to select “f4” when the computer boots (on the samsung BIOS splash screen) to enter the restore mode

MemberUpdate on original problem.
My email download into outlook takes a long time sometimes (something I never got with my dell)
Although the signal says excellent it can be laboriously slow.
Note I am only 3 ft from the Bt interent box.
Cant be bothered to take it back to PC world will probably get a better card nearer the expiry of the warranty.
Shame really as I like the size and battery life.

MemberMany thanks, again, RachaelB.
She restored it back to the original settings and it is now really fast. She will have to install many of the updates, but at least she can do them at her own pace and should notice if one of them causes a problem. I am still not sure what the problem is, but maybe one updated driver too many.So thanks RachaelB, and everyone else who read my comments. The problem has been resolved – for now.

MemberA pleasure.
maybe you should suggest to her to only update and install in small blocks rather than one fell swoop so that she can figure out where the problem is if it happens again – could be something as simple as a DLL conflict 🙂

MemberYes that is what she is doing. So far so good.

[/quote1252960422]it could also be malware that she got rid of by re-installing OS….anytime my computer starts to get sluggish i just re-install – seems like every 3-4 months or so…..
also, that Process Explorer is a free download – it can give you an idea of what programs/malware are
using (stealing??) your CPU cycles….look for excess “svchost.exe” or “rundll32.exel” instances….September 15, 2009 at 8:05 am #198961dragon
MemberSeems like the culprit is Skype. It stated going slow after she installed it again and ok after she then uninstalled it.
I will get her to load it only when she needs it in future as I suspect it is running on startup when she installs it normally.September 17, 2009 at 5:02 pm #198931colindee
MemberStill getting intermittent problems… some days it works ok other a pain.
Wondering if there is a conflict some wher or my setting are wrong.
Today I was able to access free wireless at a conference centre.
The pic at the bottom showed status connected & signal excellent.
When I tried using web browser or outlook it would not connect.
Any ideas of where to look for a problem?
I tried using Mozilla Firefox & Internet explorer8 for web browsing and outlook 2003.
Thanks
Colin

Participantcolindee – Re-reading the thread I see it was working ok with the Atheros 7.6.1.160 driver some 10 days ago.
Has anything changed in the intervening period ie. new software, drivers etc.that may have have caused this.Sometimes so called free access points can be a problem to connect to so it may not necessarily be related but the intermittent connection can and usually is caused by the driver.

It could be a number of things. What has changed since installing the Atheros 7.6.1.160 driver – I thought you said this cured it?
What wireless encryption are you using – eg. WEP or WPAx ?
ie. if you are using WPAx then does it stabilise using WEP or even OpenWhat drivers have you tried apart from 7.6.1.160 ?
Try setting the router to G only mode.
When you get ‘limited or no connectivity’ again try right click and choose Repair.
Check what wireless channels are being used by neighbouring networks. Change your channel to be as far away as possible from them. They can be checked with Network Stumbler
Check your network settings as per details in threads below

MemberI have not used this for at least a week.
Nothing has been changed.
Turned it off and left it.
Turned it on today and it shows excellent connection but refuse to down load emails or connect to my main pc.
When I try to connect to the internet I get the Connection was reset.
This is proving to be one big pain in the butt.

Is this a new development in that it won’t connect to your PC network as well, as I don’t recall this being mentioned before. Is the problem experienced predominately when re-starting from hibernation or standby or just from normal cold boot?
If it persists mainly from hibernation or standby then change the power save mode to ‘off’ in the AR5007EG Adapter Properties > Advanced.
What results did you get from the suggestions in my previous post?
Hope this helps
