Memberfirst i must say my user name is mrgreaper not mrgraper but an unfortunate typing error has lumbered me with raper in my name 🙁
right i got this about 3 days ago
so far i have
installed avast
installed vlc
installed msn messenger live
updated it (WINDOWS XP DID THAT)
installed open office
uninstalled open office
installed firefox
uninstalled firefox
installed chromenow my problems,
video files stored on the second partition (why on earth do the insist on splitting drives in half?) the day i installed vlc, worked a treat now every so often they hicup and the sound skips for a micro second and the video freezes for a second (if that) and carrys oni tried using task manager to see what was going on but there didnt seem to be any obviouse cpu hogs
i have started using this netbook as my main computer when im at home, even though it was ment for something to surf the net and watch videos on when at work maybe im over taxing it? should i be treating it the same as a laptop ?
also any tips for a new user ?

Participantmrgreaper – Welcome
I’m sure Jez (forum owner) will arrange to have your username changed if you send him a PM 🙂VLC Player runs very smoothly but you could try un-installing Chrome as some users have had issues with it. It is worth a try.
Normal video does not over tax the sammy although it struggles with high definition, but mp4 and avi etc run well I have found. HQ in youtube is very slow but normal quality is fine even at full screen.
You may want to try the KMPlayer as an alternative video player.
If you have Avast now did you use the McAfee MCPR removal tool after the McAfee uninstall?
Regarding tips have a look at the wiki faq and the wiki section on the N110
Hope this helps

thank you i`ll have a more thourgh read of the wiki later (had a quick read of it on my phone last night) i hadnt removed macfree with that program just uninstalled it, how ever i have now ran it and it did something and rebooted….not sure that was good or bad lol. i will uninstall chrome in a few minutes and put back firefox (firefox i always view as a good browser but a memory hog however netbooks are a new beast to me and i will yield to the more wise :)) kmplayer is completly new to me, for years i have insisted my friends use vlc instead of codec packs and never had any issues till this n110 but i will give it a try (wont hurt to leave vlc installed as well) i wont get time to sit down and watch something till i get to work though so no testing till after 6 🙁im also open to hear anyones personal opinions on the n110, what they have successfuly tried on it and what failed
oh i also found a bios update on the samsung web page proberly old new to you guys but i applied ir (though now the first screen before xp loads is so fast i cant see what to push to access the bio to set up my password lol

One thing to consider is that the N110 is basically the same internally as the NC10, so all the things (hardware and software) people have tried with the NC10 (and for the most part the N120, N310, N130 and N140) should be applicable to the N110.[quote1253374344=mrgraper]oh i also found a bios update on the samsung web page proberly old new to you guys but i applied ir (though now the first screen before xp loads is so fast i cant see what to push to access the bio to set up my password lol[/quote1253374344]
Press (or hold down) F2 to access the BIOS.September 19, 2009 at 4:02 pm #201393mrgreaper
Memberthank you for the f2 i shall do that next boot
i have also installed and like that kmplayer the interface takes some figuring out to get it how i want but that will happen fast 🙂
on the wiki it suggested drivermax i downloaded and ran this and it suggested a lot of drivers lol (tons of them) though the samsung auto download tool (which i cant find to get the name at mo … i think its hiding) said when i first ran it 2 days ago there were no new drivers. surely they couldnt of all been updated in 2 days? is drivermax no longer recommanded?
nc10 the same as n110? i sincerly hope not lol otherwise why get an n110 (i choose the most expensive model my currys had in stock, this was it did i choose wrongly lol) admitadly having seen people post about windows 7 RTM n110 im guessing i have old stock
one finaly thing before i get ready to go to work, did anyone else find it strange that they include a “system Software media Samsung nc10/n110” dvd with it that when you insert it into a pc wants to install all the n110 drivers? you know given that theres no dvd drive on this thing lol i soent a good 10 minutes looking for the hatch to open for the dvd drive (theres got to be a slot somewhere i was thinking or a hatch or maybe this unclips why else give us a disc) i mean i could understand it if it wanted to set up a flash drive when u insert the dvd but no it wanted to set up my main pc with the samsung drivers

The N110 is basically the NC10 with a glossy screen, larger touchpad (think it omits multi-touch), slightly restyled outer shell and a slightly larger battery capacity which gives a slightly longer run time.Out of Samsungs netbook range the models which are different are the NC20 and the N510.
Where the NC20 has the Via Nano processor and Chrome 9 graphics chipset so it performs better for things like video decoding and games. The N510 which has only just come out is based on the Nvidia ION platform and should perform well with games and certain HD video.[quote1253377854=mrgraper]admitadly having seen people post about windows 7 RTM n110 im guessing i have old stock[/quote1253377854]
The netbooks don’t come with Windows 7 at-least not yet, people may have obtained copies from various places legally like MSDNAA or illegally from download sites.[quote1253377854=mrgraper]one finaly thing before i get ready to go to work, did anyone else find it strange that they include a “system Software media Samsung nc10/n110” dvd with it that when you insert it into a pc wants to install all the n110 drivers? you know given that theres no dvd drive on this thing lol i soent a good 10 minutes looking for the hatch to open for the dvd drive (theres got to be a slot somewhere i was thinking or a hatch or maybe this unclips why else give us a disc) i mean i could understand it if it wanted to set up a flash drive when u insert the dvd but no it wanted to set up my main pc with the samsung drivers

This is where an external USB dvd drive comes in handy. 😀September 24, 2009 at 12:57 pm #201388jez
