MemberHello there.
I am a brand new Samsung owner having updated my almost obsolete Advent 4211 to a Samsung N110.
I love the new machine but video played in iplayer or itunes is choppy and stutters. I’m surprised because it all ran fine on my older, more rubbish Advent netbook and this is what is confusing me as the Advent ran with the same processor and RAM size.
The N110 I have is running Windows 7 starter and I’m not particularly techy at all but my question is: would upgrading my RAM to 2gb or purchasing Windows 7 Home or even purchasing XP and rolling back make a difference and enable me to enjoy video again. I know that itunes isn’t really designed for netbooks so I’m not expecting miracles but it would nice if iPlayer was ok as that’s my main tool for watching tv.
Any help or advice would be very welcome. I’ve done some google searches and I’m having trouble identifying what the issue is…
Ta in advance.

ParticipantIf you haven’t already you’ll want to change the max CPU processor state from 50% to 100%.
To do this:
1) Right click on the battery icon, click on Power Options
2) Beside the Samsung Optimised plan click on the “Change plan settings” link.
3) Click on the “Change advanced power settings” link.
4) Expand “Processor power management” > “Maximum processor state” and change it to 100% on battery.Additionally press Fn + F8 until Speed Mode is activated, make sure that iTunes or whatever other program you want to have slightly better performance is selected/highlighted.

MemberOh wow.. I changed the power settings and now iPlayer works a treat and using the speed mode has made iplayer and quick time watchable too,
Thank you so much!!!

MemberAllow me to also give a word of thanks for this post. The lackluster video performance was the real downside of this machine for me. After this setting change video plays MUCH better. This really elevates my positive feelings about the N210 and finding this forum.

MemberHi A Crusty newby here with a Black N110 and W7starter. I’ve modified the power settings as recommended above but the Fn+F8 just toggles between normal and silent. Is it me or the W7starter?

Have you made sure that you have a program open (and selected/focused, click on it if unsure)? The Speed Mode is only applied to the running program, so if there isn’t a program open you can’t select the mode. Causing it to toggle between the normal and quiet modes.

ParticipantEggbox – Welcome to the forum
You should have 3 modes – Silent, Normal and Speed.
It only operates as described in the above posting.Hope this helps

MemberHi thanks for the welcome and the additional info.I have added Fn+F8 to VLC media player, iTunes and System Mechanic. Can I assume now that each time I open these applicationns they will run in their ‘faster’ mode?

ParticipantEggbox – You will need to do the [Fn] + [F8] keys each time you open a program or setting the power profile to max performance if you are running XP may help.
Hope this helps

MemberShould we adjust the minimum or maximum, i ask because mine is already at 100% by default and it still stinks…lol n140 windows 7 starter my minimum on both battery and plug is 5%

Participantukez – Maximum processor state at 100% when on battery is the important setting.
Try also setting the When playing video on battery setting to Optimize video quality.
Hope this helps

The minimum setting only sets the minimum frequency of the processor, as the processor will automatically ramp up to the maximum frequency when needed almost instantly there shouldn’t be any difference changing it from 5% to something higher. Well except for decreased battery life and probably more heat. -
