MemberCan anyone advise me on how to set the NC10 up for PAYGO broadband?
I have done some research and thought I could simply buy a dongle and plug it in – but then I read something confusing about embedded sim cards, and dongles not working too well on netbooks.
Help?!

MemberI have used my NC10 with 3 PAYG mobile broadband and Vodafone Top up and Go in the UK. In both cases the dongle comes with software on board that you install and then use to connect. It’s really straightforward.
You may have heard about the version of the NC10 that comes with a sim card slot located underneath the battery. The standard NC10 doesn’t have that and will need to use a dongle.

Memberi’m using the 3 Huawei E5830, 3 are calling it MIFI, so basically it’s a 3G dongle that allows upto 5 devices to connect to it via wifi.

MemberI have a dongle from 3. I was a bit disappointed by the reliability whilst on the move (mobiles phones work OK on the train!).
When my usage allowance expires at the end of the year I might move to the £5 p/m Orange or Virgin deal. Both are open to existing customers only.
edit: welcome jezza123, 22 places ahead of me.

MemberI’ve got a 3 dongle, had it for about 9months, never let me down, only slow on a couple of occasions! I even used it up in Aviemore for a week and spend most of the time streaming radio.

MemberHi NetbookNewbie, I use 3 PAYG sim on my nc10 with built-in HSPA Modem, I stopped using Samsung Connection Manager as it has issues with Windows 7. I just installed samsung hspa modem drivers and in the modem properties extra initialization commands i put [ at+cgdcont=1,,”three.co.uk” ] dial-up no. *99**1*1# . i also noticed faster connections this way.

I think the chap I spoke to told me they sting you for £2.00 / MEGAbyte…OWWW!Of course, I could be wrong {:~)

MemberUsing Vodaphone dongle, plug in and a few clicks on what comes up to install and it was fine. Don’t use it much though and the coverage isn’t great but it’s the cheapest PAYG with no expiry on your top up (unless you leave it something like 6 months with no use at all).
Would like to have an Orange one for the coverage but that £5 a month goes up to £10 after the first three months, which I suppose isn’t bad but not worth it for my small usage.
