MemberThanks for the dongle help people, it’s working ok now but……..I just had it in my pocket…..shifted position and thought hmm it’s not comfy I’ll move it…..put my hand in and it’s really hot so probably keeping it in a pocket isn’t a good idea

ParticipantFifi – I haven’t noticed my MiFi getting too warm in use although I’ve not tried it for extended periods.
Perhaps it also functions as a hand warmer in these cold times 🙂

Jayne offers to take jeepers01’s MiFi off his hands for the price of a hand-warmer 😉December 25, 2009 at 8:56 pm #208110sammyone
MemberMay not be so obvious, but had you switched it off? I believe it needs to be switched on and off…

MemberOh yes I switch if off when I’m not using it, then it doesn’t get hot. I’m talking if you are using it but it’s in your pocket (we had a house full plus a big dog yesterday so I stuffed it in my pocket so it wouldn’t get knocked around by a big wagging tail.) I suppose I was wearing my fleece lined winter trousers. It’s not hot if it’s out on a surface and on, just if confined in small space when on.

MemberHave been using the Huawei D100 Dongle to WiFi covertor, which needs Mains electricity, to ‘share’ my Dongle and was contemplating getting the MiFi – to be able to share, with my family while travelling – so all these comments are helpful; just need wait till the next pay day then I’ll also become a MiFi user… Just need to find out how to unlock it… to use with VFone. Participantsammyone – I’ve been looking around at unlocking mine and only the DC site seems to be able to do it reliably but not found any free solutions yet. Let us know if you find out anything interesting.
Some thing you may not realise is that the MiFi cannot be charged up by usb whilst it is in operation. Seems an incredible oversight so it is limited to the 5 – 6 hour charge and then the 1.5 – 2 hour downtime whilst recharging.
You have probably seen RachaelB’s MiFi review here but if not there is about 14 pages of preamble build-up so if you want to cut to the chase then work back from the last page 🙂
Hope this helps

MemberI wasn’t really monitoring it but I’m sure I didn’t get 5 hours out of it before the re-charge warning was flashing. Maybe I didn’t charge it up for long enough.
