MemberThis is sort of a follow up on my own thread posted here earlier…
Well, took the risk and went on an adventure today, sort of… manually set the multiplier at 8x to lock in the CPU speed at spec. max. of 1600MHz (I know, not exactly overclocking the VIA Nano), and the NC20 seems holding up fine. Everest Ultimate reported CPU Diode temp. of 50c (122f). The VIA Nano seems to have a potential overclocking headroom to 9x based on the temp. reported. Yet, not going to overclock my NC20 beyond its max. spec. until its retirement day is near, just don’t have the budget for another netbook… 😉
Update
Upon further playing with the other available multipliers, I noticed that each multiplier is paired with a dynamically changing fsb, which caped the cpu speed at 1600Mhz, based on Everest’s reading. However, based on CPU-Z’s reading, all other multipliers, except “auto”, would lock the CPU speed in a lower speed (i.e. underclocking).September 30, 2009 at 1:16 am #202306angelwolf71885
Memberdetails on how to lck it at that speed please 🙂

Memberangelwolf71885,
Once you have entered into the BIOS (hit F2 while booting up), hold the FN and hit F11and F12 each once, then hit the right arrow key (–>) once to bring up the hidden menus. Now, go to the VIA-Adv menu and you will see VIA Processor Control, select that and hit enter and you will see VIA CPU FID and that’s where the different multipliers (from X4 to X12) are located and you may select to lock your CPU speed to different intervals lower than the max. 1600Mhz (based on CPU-Z readings)
Note of caution (as always): play with these (or any) BIOS parameters at your own risk! 😉

MemberTo access the extra VIA bios just enable the 1st and 3rd light (see left front leds) Than just scroll with the error keys and the hidden bios option pops up.

Memberdoes anyone else have any feedback of their experiences of using this process
like pros and cons etc…

MemberI tried it but i think it is better, see no effect it just is all the time on full power? i stick with “auto”.
I have 2gb ram and i even can play quakelive with 800×600 on lowest settings – almost no lag (using an external monitor).
