I have just purchased an NC10 from ebay. It appears to be in excellent condition but the windows XP COA is rubbed off. This seems odd to me as the netbook shows no other signs of wear? Should I be worried?
I went to the microsoft website and downloaded the WGA tool and it tells me it is genuine winXP installation.
Also after several attempts I managed to download free AVG and skype.
When I now try using skype it tells me the computer is running slowly to make clear calls? I have the netbook connected to the mains and no other progs are running. Could it be a problem with this netbook.
The previous owner tells me he installed 2gb ram and I have checked and it says 1.99gb installed.
Thanks for any help on this.
John.
Welcome to the forum jrh2254,
Don’t be concerned, for something seemingly so valuable one might expect a durable label, sadly that is not the case, they always seem to rub off quite quickly. I generally take a photo of mine when I purchase a new laptop for that very reason.
Skype tends to be over cautious too, mine says my PC is running slow, but it still works fine. I believe others have a similar experience.
Without a readable label, re-installing Windows can be problematic, may I suggest you get a FREE program such as Magical Jellybean Keyfinder –

Run the program and this will let you know what the Installation Product Code is…
Write it down – for later… (the program can save it as a text file, but that might vanish if windows dies…)
I have to say that sammyone is correct on the matter of using the Magival Jellybean Keyfinder program. I used it for an old computer that I had and it works great. It will also give you the correct key codes for any and all Microsoft office program that is installed on your computer. This comes in handy because you do not have to pay for the program again. Plus you will not have to install the MJK program onto the computer.
Nice tip. Mine has almost rubbed off too. I’ve yet to need it for a reinstall as I rely on the Samsung recovery image. But who knows…
