MemberHi
Firstly this will be my first netbook and that really is my problem. I want something portable but still a bit worried. We currently have an old PC and very old laptop.
Can I check the following out to check I have done my homework as I dont know anyone who has a netbook. (honestly I think its an age thing)
Main reason for buying portability
Would want to watch you tube, i player general surfing etc.
Would want to put my camera card in to it when on holiday and send pics to friends etc but appreciate there will be limitations on my editing capabilities.
Lastly and the one that seems stupid how hard is is to use word processing. I figure you will not see the whole page of an A4 doc like you would on my PC. Do you get used to it or do you make your font smaller.
Other things I think I might have to upgrade the RAM to 2GB
If I wanted to watch any dvds if on holiday or anything like that I could buy and external DVD player. I presume it would work out the size of my screen.
Lastly whilst I wont be able to play really modern games there should be plenty of games my kids could play on that would suit the N220.
I also think you can only get a n220 with windows 7 starter if anyone knows if you can get the full windows on it i would appreciate that.
Sorry this is so long hope this is classed as quick questions there are just alot of them.
ThanksJune 26, 2010 at 4:16 pm #21439000264167
Memberi got the n220 a few days ago. yes it does iplayer, utube and all webpages i normally use, although i can only get iplayer to do full screen with the smothness of a tv picture with ie8 although others report other browsers work ok with theirs, so might just be my add ons etc.
card slot is sd, not tried editing but i think it will cope with some basic stuff.
word,…. i deleted it as the ms office is only a few months trial but in wordpad you get the full page on the screen like a pc.
im running ok on 1gb ram at the moment, nothings too slow but obviously 2gb would be better.
as far as i know windows 7 starter can be upgraded over the internet pretty easily, although i havent found ive needed to do it .
external dvd player with usb connection works, although windows media player has been disabled in playing dvd’s so youll need vlc player which is free. yes it should fit the size of the screen automatically.

ParticipantGoofeysGirl – For games there is a list for the NC10 which should be a good guide for those that will run on the N220.
Look for the Samsung Netbook Games List the sammy wiki
This thread has details of how to overcome the Win 7 starter limitations.
Hope this helps and let us know how you get on with the N220

MemberPhoto editing will work ok, I use paint.net for some simple manipulation. The biggest limitation though is screen size and the touch pad so although you can do it I wouldn’t want to edits loads of pics!
If I do have to do that kind of thing my portable mouse comes in very handy!
