MemberHaving come from a Macintosh background, I am accustomed to
placing the Trash Bin on the lower right corner of the screen. I have done this with XP PCs until I purchased the NC10.For the life of me I can’t figure out how to turn off two features of NC10:
1. All icons forced to left side
2. Icons won’t stay put, but are automatically moved where XP wants it to be.Can anyone help me turn off this forced icon placement? I don’t know what it’s called and haven’t been able to figure it out. Thanks in advance.

MemberJust a quick thought, if you right click on the desktop and select organise icons, check that automatic is turned off as this will push them to the left every reboot.

MemberIf you want to go back to a mac look – why not use Rocket Dock, then use Tweak UI to get rid of all the icons from the desktop. Very simple and surprisingly pretty.

Hi CareyRight click on a clear part of the desktop, i.e. not over an icon and select the first item in the drop-down menu, i.e. ‘Arrange Icons By’ and ensure that ‘Auto Arrange’ and ‘Align to Grid’ are not ticked. Now you can place the icons where ever you want.

MemberYep I was going to suggest arragne icons too ^^
I suspect this will be your problem. I too have always placed my “Recycle Bin” in the bottom right. Not sure why, maybe Atari’s TOS had it there, or Win 3.1?

Windows 3.x didn’t have a desktop trash can. The Atari ST default (IIRC) is lower-left corner. The Mac and GEOS for the Commodore 8-bits had it in the lower-right. The Amiga had it in a window. :)July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pm #195249tonytb

MemberThat’s what search engines are for. (Well, they confirmed what I was thinking, anyway. :)
