MemberHas anyone else had a hinge crack on their NC20? I’m right handed and I usually open the NC20 holding the base at the right and the lid at the left. Recently the case has cracked on the left hand side, near the hinge. It still works fine, but I just have to be really careful opening the case.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

MemberNo not until now. You got any pics of the defect?

MemberNo crack here, but the (left) hinge itself has become a bit skewed. I have to admit I handled it quite rough though.

Participantmikeymoo – Sorry to learn of your cracked case problem.
Is it something that can be repaired with some suitable glue with maybe some reinforcement added to the inside of the case under the crack?
From what you describe, it sounds eminently fixable to me.
As Speed suggested, is it possible to post some pictures so we can gauge the extent of the problem?
Hope this helps

[/quote1275138446]It could just be that the screen hinge securing screws need to be slackened and re-tightened to re-align the skew to the hinge.Hope this helps

MemberIt turns out that I have a crack in the plastic near the hinge screws 🙁
I wonder if it is possible to buy a replacement bottom plastic?
Or does anybody know how to glue/wield a crack in the plastic in a way that reinforces it?

It probably is fixable but for now I’m just being careful.
Do my cracks look like yours Bismark?

MemberWell I only got one, directly next to the screws, just like the one at yours. However thare’s more to it. I took of the bottom for further investigation and found out that the screwholders for the screws on the upper side of the hinge were broken. So basically the plastic on the bottomsite is is the only thing carrying the weight of the screen/top at the hinge joint. This means the pressure is probably gonna break that crack further.
A solution would be to find a way to firmly connect the upper side of the hinge to the chassis.

MemberOkay glued the crack (inside and outside) and the hingescrews (not sure if that was succesfull) last week and so far it actually worked quite well. Though the hinge is not exactly in it’s old position, it feels a stable (also while opening), so it might be a good soution. I used some universal glue.

MemberOMG! I just cheked my nc20 and saw almost the same crackes, they are just not as noticable as yours (for now). So it ssems that nc20 has one more weak place. Maybe we can try warranty?
BTW i have never opened my nc20 (but I have opened little cover withh hdd once).June 17, 2010 at 2:01 pm #213701Bismarck

[/quote1276783178]Maybe you could. Mine is over a year old (I bought it second hand from someone who bought it in may last year), so out of warranty.
