MemberHi, my name is Alan.
First of all, I know that my R580 is more of a laptop than a netbook, but I though you might help.
Here we go !
Yesterday, I’ve installed Kubuntu to try it, but I didn’t like it, so I erase the partition containing Kubuntu from Windows.
To uninstall GRUB, I booted from the Windows 7 Recovery CD and dit “bootrec /fixmbr” and “booter /fixboot”Now I’m able to boot from Windows automatically. However, when I try to start Samsung Recovery Solution, it tells me
that it can’t find the recovery partition. That partition of 15 Gig is still there, I can see it with the Windows HD Manager.More troubling, when I start the PC, even if I press F4 to start Samsung Recovery Solution, nothing happens, it just boot
Windows 7 normally.I even used a live-cd Linux distro on a USB stick (Puppy Linux) to be able to see what’s inside my recovery partition, and
everything’s there, I have NOT formated the recovery partion while installing Linux.Another question. I know I can get all the Samsung applications back later. If I were to download a Windows 7 Fam.
Premium OEM (The version I have) on the internet, format my Laptop, install Windows 7 using this CD, but unsing my
genuine CD-Key that I got with my Laptop, will it work ? For the recovery thing, I can use Windows own recovery solution
software or something like Acronis, I don’t really care, I juste don’t want to format my laptop only to find out that the CD
that I download don’t work.Thanks everyone.

the typos, if any.September 7, 2012 at 9:06 am #221515sammyone
MemberInstalling Linux will ‘Bork’ any computers MBR
the MBR records where all the ORIGINAL partitions were located – but it has been over written by Linux – that is why the F4 will not longer work…
If you do not have it Installed… (Programs and Features)… you should be able to download Recovery Software from here…
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/NP-R580-JSB1US?
I assume your computer will be US version… if not – in the ‘search’ box on that page, type in the FULL part number (similar to the last 11 characters above) and it will take you to the approriate page – thought the software SHOULD be compatible with ANY Samsung Laptop.
the Software tab is toward the bottom of the page… (As is Drivers – you might want to d/l the drivers for other emergencies)
Back to the solution…
Because this works for ALL Samsung computers… ignore the [N140] in this thread…
[N140] SRS Partition Admin tool made [F4] functional again.
IF you can get access to the SRS Admin tool, the thread will show you how to recover the Functionality of the F4 key (Recovery)
Hope this was helpful…
